🌟 Wish List Wednesday 🌟

Volunteers make everything we do possible. 💛
Behind every food hamper, every smiling face, and every moment of support in our community, there are dedicated volunteers giving their time to help address food scarcity in our neighbourhoods. This week, the Sexsmith & Area Food Bank isn’t asking for items, we’re asking for YOU.

Our volunteers are the heart of our operations:

• Supporting weekly distribution days
– Clairmont (Wednesdays, 2–4 p.m.)
– Sexsmith (Wednesdays, 6–8 p.m.)
• Helping with weekly bread pickups from COBS Bread
• Pitching in at community events like Chautauqua Day BBQs, food drives, and our Christmas Hamper program

Whether you can give a little time or a lot, every helping hand makes a meaningful difference for local families.

🌟 Wish List Wednesday 🌟

Food scarcity is no joke.

While April 1 may bring laughter and lighthearted moments, many families in our community are facing very real challenges. As we approach Easter and springtime, a season of hope, renewal, and coming together, we’re reminded how meaningful a simple, nourishing meal can be. 💛

This week, the Sexsmith & Area Food Bank is wishing for items that can help make Easter a little brighter, while also supporting families with everyday essentials that stretch healthy meals further.

We are grateful to now be able to accept more stable perishable items, including:

• Eggs
• Margarine squares
• Carrots
• Potatoes
• Apples
• Oranges
- Frozen Vegetables

These simple, nourishing foods go a long way in helping families prepare meals and stretch them further.

Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make the biggest difference. A pinch of salt, a dash of pepper, or a squeeze of ketchup can turn a simple meal into something comforting and enjoyable. 💛

This week, the Sexsmith & Area Food Bank is wishing for flavour essentials, those everyday items that help families bring meals to life.

Items like:

• Mustard
• Mayonnaise
• Soy sauce or other simple seasonings

These pantry staples may seem small, but they go a long way in helping families enjoy the food they prepare.

🌟 Wish List Wednesday 🌟

There is something special about the smell of baking at home. When families have the ingredients to bake, they can stretch their food even further and create comforting, homemade treats together. 💛

This week, the Sexsmith & Area Food Bank is wishing for baking items to help our clients make the most of the food they receive.

Items like:
• Flour
• Sugar (white or brown)
• Oats
• Baking soda
• Baking powder
• Chocolate chips

We find 2.5 kg sizes are perfect, but anything helps and is appreciated. Every bag or box helps a family turn simple ingredients into something warm and nourishing.

Sometimes the most helpful meals are the simplest ones. This week, the Sexsmith & Area Food Bank is wishing for “Meal in a Can” items.

These are easy to prepare and easy to eat, making them a great option for many of our clients, including seniors, individuals working long hours, and families needing a quick meal.

Items like:
• Chunky soups
• Stews
• Chili
• Canned pasta (Ravioli, Spaghetti, etc.)
• Hearty ready-to-heat meals

These convenient options help ensure that when someone needs a quick, nourishing meal, it’s ready when they are.

We’ll be celebrating a year of impactful service, made possible by our incredible community, and looking ahead to plan for the year to come. Whether you’re a longtime supporter, volunteer, donor, or simply care about food security in our community, your voice matters.

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank all our private donors, those everyday people who chose to support our 2025 Christmas Hamper Program by donating food, gifts, toys, money, and other much-needed resources. 🎁💛

Because of your kindness, we were able to provide 152 hampers, lifting 463 people, including 203 children and 42 seniors, and bringing warmth, joy, and hope to families across our community.

Every gift, every donation, every thoughtful act showed that when we come together, we can make a real difference. Your generosity touches lives and reminds us all of the power of caring for one another.
