Hi everyone, it’s Jen Meixner, Club President.
I wanted to take a few minutes to express my gratitude and acknowledge some of the incredible volunteerism that has shaped STACC and our community.
Over the past two years, I’ve seen firsthand just how integral volunteers are to the success of organizations like STACC and how much its impact extends into the broader community.
This morning, I had the opportunity to catch up with one of STACC’s pioneering volunteers, Cliff Kolach. Cliff was involved with STACC 50 years ago, when volunteers were putting the rink up for the very first time. And all these years later, he’s still volunteering and contributing to community initiatives.
One of those initiatives was the South St. Andrews Age Friendly group, a community-organized group that operated out of an RM building until the space was needed for other purposes. As the group now comes to a close, they wanted to give back to other local community organizations.
A huge thank you to the South St. Andrews Age Friendly group for their generous donation to STACC today. We look forward to putting these funds toward age-friendly and legacy-based initiatives in our community.
I’ve had the opportunity to hear some of Cliff’s stories, along with those of other pioneering volunteers, and I’m both inspired and motivated by them. Check out our STACC Legacy Stories project on our website, where we’ll be sharing more stories about the people who helped build this community.
It also has me reflecting on our own generation of community-minded people - the volunteers who spend countless hours behind the scenes making projects happen and making this community a great place to live.
A special shout-out to fellow volunteer Troy Reimer and STACC staff member Mark Kubay for all their hard work at the arena replacing the dasher boards these past few weeks.
I gave Cliff a quick peek at the progress this morning, and he knew all too well just how much work goes into a project like this - because he was one of the volunteers who helped build the rink 50 years ago.
That’s community. One generation builds something, and the next carries it forward.
We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you on September 2 at the Grand Re-opening!
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, donated, supported, and believed in STACC. ❤️
This place exists because of you.
