THANK-YOU post from Santa Parade Of Lights (2 pages)
Season’s Greetings,
We have just seen the 18th Annual Santa Parade Of Lights come to pass in 2025. We enjoyed an amazing year with a record number of float entries, as well as a record number of the community attending to take in the parade. Yet again, my excited team of volunteers with the main parade float ran out of candy canes before we reached the end.
I can say with confidence that my Nan would be so happy to see all of the smiling faces along the parade route. She would be so proud of the community support the parade has received by all of the businesses and community groups showing up with such nicely decorated floats. All of those shiny, twinkling lights is what she hoped to see. Even seeing that huge flame popping up to warm the street would have been a favourite for her.
As every year there is much work that goes into organizing the parade. But all of this work is in vain without the community effort from so many businesses and volunteers. So, each year I try to put a list together of all of those people who dedicate their time and effort. I hope I have not misspelled any names or missed out on any volunteers, businesses, organizations or supporters. Please take the time to read on Page 2, there are many names to be found.
I’ve come to rely on the support of my sister and family and friends every year. Making preparations for the parade, the day of the parade or the work that comes after, I can always count on them to lend a hand when needed.
Each year without hesitation, Jim Pelletier, selflessly takes on the role of Volunteer Coordinator. This role is just as important as the parade planning itself. The parade simply could not take place without all the wonderful volunteers he brings together.
The Selkirk Record with Brett Mitchell and staff again provides me much support in the paper and a home base for entrants to connect with me. The Selkirk Biz, is quick to donate their volunteer vests and parking signage for my use.
The City Of Selkirk of course needs mentioning. They assist me with continued use of their facilities for THE float, assistance with permit approvals, insurance, etc. Thanks Tracy, Ryan, Dennis and everyone else involved behind the scenes.
Of course, a thank you has to go out to everyone who watched the parade this year. The roadside firepits really added to that magical touch as the fluffy white snow fell lightly down that evening. What a beautiful, fun and magical evening it was!
Merry Christmas and please have a safe and Happy Holidays,
Santa Parade Of Lights
