1930s -- Jiro and daughter Agnes Konishi at their farm. The Konishi family first worked on Bowen Island then came to Sechelt where, in 1912, Jiro (Jimmy) worked for Bert Whitaker while establishing a successful farm with his wife Hannah and four children on the west side of Porpoise Bay. They sold fruit, vegetables and milk door to door and were also involved in the fishing industry on Sechelt Inlet. By 1938 Jimmy was the proprietor of the Settlers' Supply House in Selma Park. He died in 1939 prior to the family being interned during WW11. Jimmy, his wife Hannah, daughters Toshiko and Agnes, and sons Sanji, Seiji and Shoji are buried in St. Hilda's cemetery in Sechelt. Sechelt's Norwest Bay Road is named after a bay that now goes by a different name. Which bay was formerly known as Norwest Bay?

We'll post the answer (with a photo) tomorrow.

Sechelt's first mayor was a woman.

First elected in 1956, Christine Johnston (pictured here) served for 10 years, raised four children and ran a business, Chrissie's Variety and Jewelry, on Cowrie St. (in the building which now houses Ann-Lynn Flowers and Gifts ).

Since then, Sechelt has had three more female mayors: Nancy MacLarty, Joyce Kolibas, and Darnelda Siegers.

Sechelt has had 4, Gibsons 3, and Vancouver, 0.

What am I?

We'll post the answer tomorrow.
