This free, family-friendly day brings together ocean education, stewardship, art, music, citizen science, and hands-on activities with an incredible lineup of local ocean champions.

This year, the seven-day event, held from June 8 to 14, features an increased quotient of Indigenous insight and collaboration from shíshálh Nation contributors.

Some places don’t just host a festival… they remind you what community feels like. 🌊💙

From forage fish sampling and beach walks to whale songs echoing through Mission Point House, this year’s Sunshine Coast Ocean Festival Celebration Day felt like a love letter to the coast, the Salish Sea, and the people working every day to protect it.

What makes this event so special isn’t just the programming — it’s the energy of people showing up for the ocean together. Scientists beside artists. Elders beside children. Conservation groups beside musicians. Community woven together by salt air, stories, stewardship, and connection to place.

Even from across the ocean in Ireland while completing my MSc in Marine & Coastal Environments, helping bring this festival to life reminded me how deeply the Sunshine Coast shaped me. Watching so many incredible organizations, volunteers, knowledge keepers, educators, and ocean advocates come together has honestly been emotional in the best way possible.

Huge gratitude to everyone who made this celebration happen — the paddlers, speakers, artists, volunteers, organizers, sponsors, and every single person who stopped to learn, listen, connect, and care a little more about the ocean. 🌎🐋

The ocean connects all of us. Today felt like proof of that.

🌊 Sunshine Coast Ocean Festival — Day 6 🌊

Go with the flow.

As the Sunshine Coast Ocean Festival enters its final weekend, today is an invitation to slow down, explore the coast, and reconnect with the ocean.

🐟 Watch Deep Sea BC and join explorer Quinn Barabash and his children as they reveal the hidden marine life and underwater worlds of the Salish Sea. From sixgill sharks and glass sponge reefs to mysterious creatures living far below the surface, it's a fascinating look at the ocean in our own backyard.

🏖️ Then head outside. Visit your favourite beach, harbour, estuary, stream, or shoreline. Watch the tide roll in. Look for birds. Search for crabs. Skip a rock. Breathe in the salt air. Spend some time with the coast.

And while you're out exploring, get ready for tomorrow's World Oceans Day Celebration at ts'uḵw'um (Mission Point Park) in Davis Bay.

🛶 Welcome the S-yewens lhems sila (Spirit of our Grandmothers) Canoe Family as they arrive by water.

🌿 Add a leaf to the Ocean Pledge Kelp Forest.

🐙 Create a deep-sea creature.

🧺 Try cedar weaving with Red Cedar Woman.

🔬 Explore citizen science, ocean education, and interactive exhibits.

🎶 Enjoy music with DJ BuzyB, delicious food, ice cream, beach games, and a free raffle prize draw.

Tomorrow is all about community, conservation, culture, and connection.
