To conquer loose-leash walking, we need to take it one step at a time, and the very first one is the equipment you use.

Maren Bruun of Paw In Hand shares these three essentials to enjoying a loose-leash walk with your dog.

1️⃣Well-fitted harness: that is comfortable for the dog to wear.
2️⃣Long leash: Remember that it is important that you can safely and effectively handle it.
3️⃣Treat pouch with lots of treats: because there are plenty of things that compete for your attention!

We talk all about loose-leash walking at https://animalkind.ca/all-about-leash-walking/

Meet Diva, a gorgeous medium‑haired tortoiseshell who's about two years old and ready to find a home where she can feel safe, understood, and adored. With her striking coat and soulful eyes, she's the kind of cat who turns heads - but she's much more than just a pretty face.

She'll thrive in a calm, predictable home with patient adopters who understand that she blossoms best when the world around her is steady and kind. She isn't a fan of chaos - she prefers peaceful routines, cozy hiding spots, and people who respect her boundaries.

Diva would do best as the only cat in the home. She's a queen who prefers her kingdom to herself, and she's happiest when she doesn't have to share her space or her humans with other pets.😻💅💃🩷💜❤️💟

Rhubarb or Rue for short is a small, fluffy girl with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. She's everything people love about the breed-expressive, clever, affectionate, and always ready to "chat" about her day. Her signature husky storytelling is one of her most endearing traits, and she'll happily keep you entertained with her opinions and commentary.

She adores her people and wants nothing more than to be the center of someone's world. Rhubarb is looking for a home where she can be the queen of the household, soaking up all the love without having to share space with other animals. Her ideal family understands the busy, energetic nature of a husky and is excited to give her the mental and physical stimulation she thrives on. With the right mix of activity, enrichment, and companionship, she settles in beautifully for a peaceful night's sleep.

A secure fenced yard is a must for this adventurous girl-she loves to explore, stretch her legs, and burn off her boundless energy safely. We do want to highlight the word "secure" as this girl is skilled at finding where she can break free to go say hi to the neighbors. Even though I'm sure everyone loves saying hello to this happy girl, it is important to ensure she is safe in a secure yard!

ATTN: In time for National Microchipping Month, the BC SPCA’s Pet Registry launches a new program offering pet rescues and shelters subsidized microchips to help more pets find a safe path back home. If you work for a pet rescue organization, learn more and apply today at: https://bcpetregistry.ca/subsidized-pet-microchip-program/
NOTE: While we want to support as many animals as possible, program funding is limited. Subsidies are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
