🪸Writing Theatre in Response to the Climate Crisis with Elaine Ávila

In this fun, interactive, hands-on workshop, you will write a short play in response to the climate crisis, by identifying issues, as well as exploring and expanding your sense of the possible.

An evening of short play readings. The collection of plays explores stories about climate, ecology, and the environment, told through the perspectives of animals.

✨Celebrate the closing of the Festival with Candace Campo and Trent Maynard as they present their film Nature Girl. After the screening, Candace and Trent will engage in a discussion.

Next Saturday join the community in honouring the equinox with a Festival Procession and a special Durational Taiko event!

🐦‍⬛ Festival Procession: Equinox Raven
🗓 September 20, 2025, at 5:30pm | 🎟️Free
📍Snickett Park, Ocean Ave (meet at the roundabout)

Waterfront procession guided by musicians, drummers, dancers and puppets – all celebrating the creatures of the sea. Unfolding stories of the sea on the Fall Equinox. Micro-performances by musicians, storyteller, artists and performers at the waterfront, celebrating the shifting cycles – a new phase of the year. We will end as the sun sets.

Performers include Equinox Raven, Driftwood Players, Estelle Honeywell, Play Sechelt and more!

🥁 Durational Taiko celebrating the Equinox

Taiko a thousands’ of years ceremonial tradition that bring entire communities together—lasting for hours to days—as a form of collective healing and resilience. Taiko players from the Vancouver and Sunshine Coast taiko community will gather for a ceremonial offering in honour of our chosen and biological ancestors.

🎉 We are pleased to announce the 2025 Sechelt Arts Festival events are now live!

Join us Friday for Sechelt Arts Festival opening reception!

🗓 Friday September 19th at 6pm
📍Sunshine Coast Arts Centre • 5714 Medusa St., Sechelt

Just a few of the offerings.... An exhibition featuring the work of Valerie Durant, Xel, Tegan Ceschi-Smith, Play Sechelt and Giorgio Magnanensi’s West Coast Radians – wood resonators – bring a soundscape of shíshálh elder Robert Joe and master weaver Jessica Silvey’s stories of Sinku and the Salish Sea.

A community celebration at Trail Bay Waterfront on September 20th for the Raven Equinox Procession featuring more than 20 performers, storytellers and musicians.

Climate Change Theatre Action events on September 27th and 28th, featuring play readings, a writing workshop and family programs.

Announcing the 2025 Sechelt Arts Festival!

Save the dates for the 2025 Sechelt Arts Festival! sinku – the she shashishalhem word for “open water”, often referred to as the “Salish Sea” is a core undercurrent for this year's festival. Connecting artists and creative ideas to local ecologies and our changing climate on the Coast!

🗓 September 19 – 28, 2025

💫 Exhibitions, screenings, a community procession and waterfront micro concerts, climate change theatre actions, play readings, shíshálh-led storytelling and more
