Jessica Paul, tsain-ko Health & Safety Manager, reports that tsain-ko S-p’atl’-em recently completed their Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit with an impressive passing score of 92%. This achievement is especially noteworthy because this year’s audit was conducted by an external auditor, offering a fresh perspective on our safety management program. We’re proud to have maintained our uninterrupted streak of scoring above 90%. For added context, the COR Program encourages employers to exceed the minimum legislated safety standards, and successfully doing so qualifies them for a discount of up to 10% on their WorkSafeBC premiums. We’re saving money, but more importantly, we’re keeping our people safe!

We have been providing updates on our BC Housing affiliated Our House of Clans project for several months now, and we are so proud to announce that the building itself is now fully functional, about half of our tenants have now moved in, and we are well on our way to announcing our opening day celebration, tentatively scheduled for May 16, 2024. The event will feature some short remarks from lhe hiwus, yaxwemult, as well as some representatives from our provincial government and BC Housing. Please come and join us for this important milestone celebration for our Nation.

Please join us in offering a warm welcome to Teresa Craigan, who has joined tsain-ko Properties as Maintenance Coordinator for OHOC (Our House of Clans). Teresa is a proud member of the shishalh Nation, born and raised in the beautiful town of Sechelt. As a dedicated wife and mother to two children, Teresa's life revolves around family, whether it's enjoying a cozy family dinner, embarking on camping adventures or casting a line for a day of fishing along the coast. Thank you for joining us Teresa, and we look forward to sharing some of your salmon catch!

🏗️ Our House of Clans Update🛠️
Have you seen the exterior art done by late Master carver and Artist ʔantuni Tony Paul (Indigenous Illustration), Designer Lissa Nunweiler with vaka Marketing (Signage/Architectural Graphics). We really love how it turned out - there are still a few kinks being fixed, like the definition in the double headed eagle that crowns the top of the building, but we just love the way this all turned out so far.

We can’t wait to welcome our new tenants to their suites! Look for move-in dates now postponed until early 2024.

Our House of Clans has made significant progress in the past few months.

One of the key aspects of the progress is the infrastructure of the development, and has been carefully laid out to provide a seamless living experience for the future residents.

Looking ahead, our new housing development holds great promise. With each passing day, it moves closer to becoming a vibrant community where families can create lasting memories and enjoy a high quality of life. As the construction continues, we remain committed to delivering excellence and fulfilling the dreams of those seeking Our House of Clans as their new home.

Today and everyday we stand together. We pay special tribute and offer our support on this day of truth and reconciliation. We look forward to following in the footsteps of the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement to find paths toward healing the generational trauma left in the wake of the residential school system of cruelty.

As we near the completion of the construction of Our House of Clans, there has been much work underway behind the scenes that we would like to share with Nation members.

As hopefully most are aware, Our House of Clans is a project we have undertaken in partnership with BC Housing, which for all involved has been a labour of love for roughly 5 years to get us to this point.

With construction closing in on completion, our team has been working with the Nation Housing Trust to finalize the tenant intake and approvals process.

We recognize that this has been a challenging and delicate exercise for everyone involved, as there are many complicated eligibility and income rules that we are obligated to follow.

Our hope is to achieve the best possible outcome for as many Nation members as possible.

The following graphic will provide a simplified view of the process.

Tsain-ko is honoured to have spearheaded the capital raising and construction for this critical housing initiative, and we thank the Nation as well as BC Housing for their trust and support.

We look forward to seeing Nation Elders and deserving Nation families benefit from this project, and find the peace of mind that only safety and security can provide.
