🎉 We are thrilled to announce that The Inuit Art Quarterly (IAQ), the world's only magazine dedicated to Inuit and circumpolar Indigenous arts, has been nominated for three National Magazine Awards (NMAs) for the 2023 awards cycle! The IAQ has been nominated in the One of a Kind Storytelling, Best Editorial Package, and Cover Grand Prix categories. 🏆

We owe this accomplishment to our dedicated community of readers and donors who have shown immense love and support for Inuit art, and to our funders; Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, the Canada Council for Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and Ontario Creates who make the IAQ possible. In March 2020, a group of Secondary 5 Naskapi students from Kawawachikamach visited the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Museum, one of the most renowned archaeological and anthropological museums in the world. The museum has a collection of objects belonging to Naskapi hunters from a century ago.....

The CBC is going to air a conversation with Shannon Uniam and Laura Louise Mameanskum tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7:10 a.m., right after the hourly news.

They will be talking about their trip last March to Philadelphia to reconnect with Naskapi history and visit with painted caribou garments, photographs from the last century, lexicons of Naskapi words and their English equivalents, and so much more.

The trip was generously paid for by the Naskapi Education Committee.

Aboriginal Students Awards are available to students, including those receiving funding from the NEC.

Up to $5000 is awarded.

Deadline to apply is February 28, 2021 and proof of acceptance to university or college is accepted until July 31, 2021.
