Today, as we celebrate the birthday of the Church, marked by the fire of the Holy Spirit, let us pray for the grace to recognize our deep dependence on God. Today we are called to discern the voices that speak to our hearts. Let us release the voices of temptation, of wealth, of worldly values that urge us to betray who we truly are just to fit into society. Today we pray for the grace to recognize the Lord’s presence at every moment. As we receive Holy Communion—the greatest gift, God giving himself to us—may our hearts open wide, and may the eyes of our faith truly behold the Lord whom we receive.
