Scarborough is at risk of losing its direct connection to Canada’s national passenger rail network. On October 25, VIA Rail has decided to eliminate all service at Guildwood Station.
For many Scarborough residents, this decision will mean longer, more difficult and less accessible journeys. It also threatens to cut Scarborough off from a national passenger rail network that should connect communities, not leave them behind.
MPP Andrea Hazell, Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough–Guildwood and Ontario Liberal Critic for Transportation, is having an urgent town hall to bring residents together, hear directly from those affected and mobilize a strong community response.
MPP Hazell is calling on VIA Rail to immediately place a moratorium on the service cuts, publicly release the ridership data and evidence used to justify the decision, and meaningfully consult Scarborough residents before taking away this vital transportation connection.
