The Burns Way is a newly launched mental health app is designed to support Canadian military Veterans facing challenges such as post-traumatic stress disorder. It allows these Veterans to communicate anonymously with someone who truly understands their experiences: another Veteran. The app enables Veterans to easily connect with a peer-support individual—never a chatbot or AI—available 24/7, requiring no email or login. Named after Earl Burns Sr., a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran who heroically lost his life while protecting his family during the 2022 James Smith Cree Nation mass stabbing, the Burns Way app is developed by Tricycle Data Systems. With over 461,000 veterans in Canada, more than 90,000 are anticipated to suffer from diagnosed mental health issues, including depression, PTSD, or anxiety.

On the morning of August 19, 1942, Canadian and Allied forces landed on the shores of Dieppe, France, in a pivotal operation during the Second World War.

Of the 6,100 troops who took part in the Dieppe Raid, nearly 5,000 were Canadian.

The mission came at a tremendous cost. More than 900 Canadians lost their lives that day, making it one of the darkest chapters in Canada’s wartime history. The hard lessons learned at Dieppe would go on to shape future Allied operations.

Today, and every day, we remember their courage and sacrifice.
