Why was HMA created?
The story begins with a need to protect halal.
HMA was created out of a necessity to protect the integrity of
halal after CCMT identified concerns and irregularities within
the halal food industry.
Under the guidance of senior scholars across the GTA in the
early 2000s, extensive efforts were made to establish a
trusted halal monitoring system. Multiple meetings were held,
guidelines were developed, and countless hours were
dedicated to studying the industry while working alongside
government and legal agencies before launching HMA.
From the very beginning, this effort has been from the
community, for the community. Today, we remain committed
to safeguarding halal standards and supporting Canadian
Muslims through reliable halal monitoring.
Thank you to every family, consumer, business, and
supporter who has placed their confidence in HMA over the
years. Together, with the help of Allah, we continue striving to
preserve halal for future generations.
