To Whom it May Concern,
We are Addiction and Mental Health Advocates and we are thrilled to announce the
opening

of The Compassion Hub at 133 Gore St. We intend for The Hub to become a one-stop location that will serve as a gateway to
a multitude of resources and training opportunities related to mental health counselling
and substance use disorder guidance and treatment, employment services, housing
assistance, healthcare and government navigation and public benefit assistance. We hope
to provide people a chance for change so they can, in turn, contribute to stronger,
healthier communities. We want to specialize in helping people who want to turn their
lives around, make better choices and live healthier lives
We recognize that all people are nurtured when treated with compassion. We
intentionally nurture individual and collective well-being, belonging and contribution. We believe that respect is the foundation for our relationship with each other and with
the land. Therefore, we pay close attention to how we treat all people and our natural
world. We also believe that everyone should have equitable access to community
resources and opportunities. We will actively strive to level the playing field for those
who are at a disadvantage in achieving access to community resources and
opportunities. We want to partner with the neighbourhood residents to work together as we cannot
do it alone. We encourage you to come by, drop in, visit and
engage in conversation and work with us towards community wellness. If there is a
service that you can offer at the Hub, we will be thrilled to set up a time that you can
come to the Hub and offer your services to our clients. Of course, all COVID protocol
is being followed. We will be having a soft opening on February 21st at 10:am with a
grand opening to follow at a later date. Our hours, to begin with, will be 10:am to 8:pm. We are aiming to eventually remain open for 24 hours. Please reach out to us to set up a convenient time to talk. We look forward to having
you work alongside us to construct a healthier, happier community. Donna DeSimon

Hello everyone. The Compassion Hub will be closing on April 15th. We don't know where we are moving as of yet but I wanted to take some time time to thank each and every one of you for all your donations and help. It's been a struggle but you have helped us time and time again with whatever we needed.
This year has been an eye opener to say the least.
I've learned that stigma is alive and well in our community. We need to educate more and show more empathy to those struggling with addiction and or mental health. This is not going to go away if we choose to bury our heads in the sand.
I've learned that a hug can go a long way. I can't make them better, but I can comfort, listen to their complaints and do everything in my power to help.
I have learned that my rock bottom is not the same as your rock bottom. Most people who suffer from addiction live everyday in what we would call our rock bottom. Alot of us are one pay cheque away from being homeless ourselves. Let that sink in. It's a scary thought.
I've learned that people who use drugs don't use drugs to die. They just want the pain to stop. They want their minds to stop racing. Instead of screaming why the addiction, start wondering why the trauma? What has this person endured in their lifetime that they have to rely on drugs? I've cried with many, wishing I could take the pain away.
I've learned that I can't help them all. The ones who are serious about getting help will do the work. The ones who don't.... won't. But you keep helping hoping one day they will truly want the help. They're used to people giving up on them.
I have learned that you can have amazing friends as your team who you will do everything with you for years. The people you once valued will drift. You will figure out who your tribe is. People will come and go. Let them go. It takes a certain kind of person to work with our most vulnerable.
We did indeed find our tribe, and for that I'm thankful. I can't thank these volunteers enough. They come in every day and show their passion and dedication. You guys are true warriors and I love you all so very much.
Last but not least I have learned that we have an amazing community! When they Hub needs food or money to pay our rent. You are all there!! When we're selling tickets for fundraisers, you are all there! I cry on the amount of donations that come in when we ask. I could not be more proud to be a citizen of this amazing city.
And my mom Donna DeSimon , we had a dream. Look what we did! We didn't know how this was going to work out but we wanted to try. Look at all the people we helped, all the friends we've made. Everything we do, we do big! This included. Thank you for having faith in me. Thank you for learning with me. I love you.

We lost a young woman today. My heart is so heavy and the pain is so real and so is the struggle. We reached out to 3 different treatment centre's. We had to call them repeatedly to see how long the wait list was etc, only to be told because she wasn't from the north shore this treatment centre couldn't help her. I was outraged! So she wasn't the right kind of indigenous? I don't get it. Found another treatment center for women, ran by women who believe in empowering each other. They had an intake interview with her and said they'd call in 3 weeks to let her know what their game plan was and they never called her back. The third one finally called today..... hours after her dad found her body. The Soo alone is full of stories like this.
This is how the system fails people. She wanted help. She asked and struggled and she was let down. I AM ANGRY!!! IM SO FU**IN ANGRY!! this didn't have to happen. We need to do better! As people, as a community as friends.

Rest easy my girl. You are no longer struggling. We love you so much πŸ’“

So, The Hub was robbed...😒
We think that someone was hiding in the basement when we closed last night.... No forced entry, and we know it was a woman. We lost food, clothes, coffee, makeup, nail polish, flashlights, large industrial mop pail, suitcase, canned goods and some appliances. We are still taking inventory. But thankfully, we can still have our Christmas dinner on Friday.🩢πŸ₯Ή

The Compassion Hub is looking for people who want to help our homeless and individuals who are struggling with addiction and mental health. We are looking for warriors. People who are empathetic and want to make a difference. We need volunteers!! Let me tell you..... this has been the best rewarding experience I've ever had. If you are interested in donating your time please message me or my mom Donna DeSimon . We look forward to hearing from you xo

Well everyone... your prayers have worked!!! The Compassion Hub will NOT be closing at the end of this month! We are staying where we are for the time being. That being said, we need supplies desperately! We are out of everything! We need coffee, creamer, sugar, granola bars, hot cereal, milk, regular cereal, crackers, cup a soups, bread and margarine. We have requests for yogurt as well.
The Compassion Hub would like to thank a very special someone , your very generous donation is the reason that we can afford to stay a little longer to help all those that need us. We can't thank you enough.
If you can donate any of these food items you can message me or drop off at 133 Gore Street. We are open Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Thursdays 12 to 6.
