October is Women’s History Month in Canada, a time to celebrate the women whose leadership, innovation, determination, and contributions have helped shape our country, and those who continue to make history today.

At Women in Mining and Women in Nuclear Saskatchewan, we see that impact every day. Women are leading, innovating, mentoring, building careers, and creating change across Saskatchewan’s mining and nuclear industries.

Women’s History Month is also an opportunity to recognize the work that remains. Representation matters, and creating workplaces where women have opportunities to enter, advance, lead, and have their voices heard strengthens our industries and the communities they support.

This October, we celebrate the trailblazers who helped open doors, the women making an impact today, and the next generation who will continue to move our industries forward.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, WIM/WiN-SK honours the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities. We pause to remember with humility, listening, and a commitment to acting.

This day calls us beyond symbolism — to education, reflection, and reconciliation through concrete steps. Here are a few resources you can explore today (and beyond) to deepen your understanding and engagement:

Last week, WIM/WiN-SK was proud to partner with the ISSA Mining Safety Conference for their Networking Cocktail Dinner in Saskatoon, bringing attendees together after a full day of learning for an evening of conversation and connection.

Events like these are a great reminder of the value of creating space for people across the industry to connect, strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and build new ones.

Thank you to the ISSA Mining Safety Conference organizers, everyone who joined us for the evening, and all those who contributed to this year’s conference and the important conversations around workplace health and safety.

We were so pleased to be part of it and hope everyone enjoyed their time in Saskatoon! 💜

Looking for an opportunity to connect with experienced women working in Saskatchewan’s STEM and mining sectors in a smaller, more personal setting?
Join WIM/WiN-SK for Core Connections: STEM, an intimate mentoring and networking session designed for meaningful conversation, connection, and learning.

Hosted by Carla W., this session will allow participants to connect with two experienced STEM professionals:

⚙️ Ricci De Cecco, Senior Mechanical Technologist with Hatch, brings 28 years of consulting engineering experience, including 16 years working in Saskatchewan’s potash and uranium sectors.

🦺 Elise Nelson, P.Eng., Safety Coordinator with Nutrien, brings 10 years of experience in potash mining and has recently expanded her career into Environmental, Health and Safety.

With registration limited to just 12 participants, six per mentor, you’ll have the chance to ask questions, share experiences, gain career insights, and build genuine connections in a relaxed small-group setting.

A big thank you to Jackie Lai for helping us pause, reset, and recharge throughout Mine Your Potential 2026 with guided meditation and stretching breaks.

With a full day of learning, networking, and meaningful conversations, taking a few moments to breathe, move, and refocus was a welcome reminder of the importance of making space for our own well-being, even on our busiest days.

Today’s conversation reminded us that allyship goes beyond good intentions. It’s about taking meaningful action, speaking up, creating space for others, and continuing to build workplace cultures where everyone feels valued, respected, and included.
