Today, on Red Dress Day, our staff wears red to show solidarity and raise awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S). This day honours and brings awareness to the thousands of Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people who have been subject to disproportionate violence in Canada.

Other ways you can take action today include listening to stories of survivors, attending local walks and vigils, reading the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and sharing the Calls for Justice.

May 5 marks Red Dress Day, a National Day of Remembrance and Activism honouring the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People. This day began with the REDress Project, created by Métis artist Jaime Black in 2010 where empty red dresses were hung in public spaces to symbolize the lost lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women.

To commemorate this day, you can show solidarity by wearing red and participating in one of the many events happening in our community to honour this day.

Additional ways you can stay connected are by joining our Coffee & Conversation program, writing handwritten cards to your friends and family, or expressing gratitude to those around you.

What are some ways that you stay connected?
