🎭 Let’s Show Up & Show Support! 🎭

One of our ITEP students, Johnny Cross (Tootoosis), is hitting the stage in Translations at the Greystone Theatre, and this is your sign to go see it! 🌟

Running February 11th–14th with a 7:30pm start, this is a brilliant chance to support a fellow student, enjoy a powerful piece of theatre, and do something a little different in the evening.🌟

TRANSLATIONS hits the Greystone Theatre's Emrys Jones stage right quick! Tickets are available now and have been moving very quickly, snag yours before this run sells out: https://usaskartsandscience.universitytickets.com/w/default.aspx

Often cited as one of the great Irish plays of the 20th century, Brian Friel’s Translations is set in 1833, County Donegal, Ireland, between the abolition of the Irish Parliament and the onset of the Great Famine. As a group of students, ranging from a semi-literate farmer to an elderly autodidact, pursue education at a hedge school, a detachment of Royal Engineers is tasked with mapping the region, recording local Gaelic place names and replacing them with English equivalents. The collision of cultures brings forth far-reaching consequences that impact the community profoundly. A comedic and poignant piece of writing, the play explores history, memory, language, culture, and the ever-repeating phenomenon of imperialism. It is a play that resonates in the world today.

(runtime of approximately 120 minutes, which includes a brief intermission)

Sharing a powerful Indigenous book called β€œAwaken Waniska.” It’s described as a journey on the Red Roadβ€”bringing together Indigenous ideology with a positive, intentional way of living. The message is about reflecting on purpose and our connection to Mother Earth, and living with clarity, balance, and respect for the world around us.
Author: Nora McAdam (Sitting on Mother Earth) β€” representing Big River and Pelican Lake First Nations. Her father, Edward Whitefish, was a Caller in Sundance ceremony β€” calling the people back to their old ways before the sun came out. That calling continues through her work and writing.
Editor: Nita McAdam-Leandre (Flying Woman) shares how these poems take you through the emotions β€” β€œcry, laugh, and wonder,” and reminds us that Mother Earth is a living being, and we are all related, coming from one place.
