Riversdale Community Fridge

Riversdale Community Fridge We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for generations.

Riversdale Community Fridge (RCF) is an initiative seeking to address issues of food insecurity and poverty in Saskatoon by collaborating with community partners to provide access to healthy food options while addressing food waste. The Riversdale Community Fridge acknowledges Treaty 6 territory—the ancestral and traditional territory of the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, as well

as the Métis. We are grateful for the Traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We recognize the land as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting. To volunteer, email us at [email protected]

Fridge switch-out and deep-clean day. Swipe for before and after -->>

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped and for the volunteer munchies. We had lots of folks coming to grab food and someone coming to donate. There is definitely a huge need for food. We urge everyone to donate when they can. Pop on over anytime 24/7 and drop off in the fridge and pantry. See the list of acceptable items in our highlights.

Financial update for the last six months:

As you can see our donations have significantly dwindled recently. We have been relying on Second Harvest donations and donations from local food businesses to keep the fridge stocked while trying to keep spending to a minimum. The Flash Food app that we normally rely on has increased their prices and the availability of food on the app has also decreased. We spent some funds on stocking the fridge with food and winter items during the coldest days of the year and doing some outreach.

WE ARE STILL LOOKING TO PARTNER WITH LOCAL FOOD BUSINESSES TO ENSURE REGULAR FOOD DONATION DROP OFFS (RESTAURANTS, BAKERIES, CATERING COMPANIES, HOTELS , ETC). if you know someone who works at or owns such a business, we'd love to chat.

We also urge community members to drop off food at the fridge and pantry anytime. Read our FAQs for acceptable items.

We want to thank all the community members and businesses who donated food or funds recently!

PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF ITEMS THAT ARE NOT FOOD OR WINTER ITEMS

We aren't sure if this was done maliciously or with good intentions but items such as this being dumped at the fridge structure are not helpful. Folks are unable to access the fridge to donate food or take food. It also compromises our relationship with our host organization that was generous to let us occupy this space.

Please read our FAQs in our highlights for items that we accept.
