October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! 💜

At Elmwood, we’re proud to celebrate the many contributions people with disabilities make in workplaces and communities every day. We’re also proud to be an employer that values inclusion and the unique strengths of every team member.

As part of SARC Saskatchewan’s Light It Up! for NDEAM initiative, several of the pillars were lit purple at last night's event in recognition of the importance of inclusive employment and workplace accessibility.

For the first time ever, we're thrilled to feature a keynote address presented by Uranium Energy Corp. and delivered by Shailynn Taylor. A disability advocate, motivational speaker, and proud Saskatchewan resident, Shailynn brings a unique perspective on inclusion, resilience, and embracing every opportunity. We're excited to welcome her to the stage!

We're also pleased to introduce this year's guest speaker, Leslie F., presented by JPH Consulting. Since joining the Elmwood community just over a year ago, Leslie has become a familiar and valued friend to many. Whether he's spending time at home with his roommates or joining recreational outings, Leslie's laidback attitude and love of connecting with others shines through. ✨

October is always a busy and exciting month at Elmwood, and one of our favourite events of the year is just around the corner, the Annual Elmwood Art Gala! 🎭🎨📸💃

Join us for an evening celebrating the creativity, talent, and hard work of Elmwood residents. The gala will feature artwork and photography created through our Art Club and Photography Club, along with performances from Drama Club and the Moove ‘n’ Groove Crew.

We hope you'll join us on October 21st at 6:30 p.m. at the McNeil Fitness Centre at Elmwood (2012 Arlington Avenue) for this special evening! 💖

Meet Our October VIP, Suzanne C.! 🌟

Suzanne has been part of the Elmwood community for over 55 years, making her one of our very first residents!

Known for her bubbly personality and incredible memory, Suzanne loves connecting with others and never forgets a birthday. A true social butterfly, she enjoys her work at Cosmo, spending time with family, watching TV, listening to music, and getting involved in recreational activities. 💖

Suzanne recently enjoyed a special trip to the Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina with our Community Inclusion Program team. Her warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm brighten the lives of everyone around her, and we're so grateful to have her as part of the Elmwood community.

Today, September 30th, marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. It is a time to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, honour Survivors and their families, and reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system.

Elmwood is privileged to provide supports and services on Treaty 6 Territory, the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Lakota, Dakota, Nakota, and Dene peoples, and the Homeland of the Métis. We recognize that truth and reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and that listening, learning, and meaningful action all play an important role in building understanding and stronger relationships.

Yesterday, we were honoured to welcome Granny Willow & the Nemihitowok Hoop Troupe for a meaningful day of learning, reflection, and connection with residents, participants, and team members. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in their teachings and celebrate Indigenous culture and resilience.

This month, we're celebrating Colin, who reached his goal of building his photography skills!

When residents set goals through their Person-Centred Planning (P*P) meetings, learning new skills and pursuing personal interests are often an important focus. Although Colin has been a member of Photography Club for several years, he challenged himself to further grow his skills this summer. 📸
