Last week, residents, participants, and Elmwood team members came together in the Friendship Garden at Kinsmen Manor for our annual John Helm Memorial Barbecue. Though it wasn’t the sunniest afternoon, it was time well spent as we honoured a beloved member of the Elmwood family. 💖

This special gathering is made possible by the John Helm Happiness Fund, established by John’s family following his passing in 2023. Known for his uplifting spirit and contagious positivity, John made a lasting impact on everyone he met. His family created this fund to carry that legacy forward.

Today, the John Helm Happiness Fund helps remove financial barriers so residents can experience meaningful moments, from sports games and concerts to community events, spreading the same joy John shared so generously. ✨

“Shailynn Taylor is a disability advocate and motivational speaker who was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

After earning a Criminal Justice degree at Mount Royal University and contributing five years as a board member for Love for Lewiston in Calgary, Shailynn is now back living in Saskatchewan and travelling around North America to share her story.

Living with the rare disease of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) has shaped her perspective to value connection and authenticity above all.

From Coachella crowds to community events, Shailynn’s message and tool box for life help those with disabilities and able bodies alike to keep moving forward.”

Furniture shopping for the final two Manor Transition homes is officially underway! 🛋

Last Friday, Kevin, Doris C., Kara, and Diana, alongside members of the Elmwood team, hopped in the vans and headed to Furniture World Saskatoon to start choosing pieces for their new homes.

Each resident plays an important role in shaping their space, from selecting their own dresser and nightstand to working together to choose the perfect leather colour for the living room furniture. Every detail, right down to the wood stain and drawer pulls, is thoughtfully chosen to reflect their preferences and support their individual needs. 💖

A huge thank you to Furniture World for their continued support! They consistently go above and beyond to create a welcoming shopping experience and ensure each piece fits both style and function for the residents.

Our second group heads out shopping next week, we can’t wait to see what they choose! ✨

Join us for the first of the season, hosted by our Community Inclusion Program on June 16th from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. A big thank-you to our sponsors, Braithwaite’s Upholstery and RE/MAX Saskatoon, for their support!

June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD)! In recognition of this important day, Elmwood’s Community Inclusion Program (CIP) will be creating and selling orange shirts. 🧡

Three unique designs are available, swipe to check them out, along with sizing and pricing details!

These shirts are made by Elmwood residents as part of CIP’s Entrepreneur Group, and 100% of profits will be donated to the Saskatoon Tribal Council. ✨

For this month’s Goal Spotlight, we’re celebrating Tanya, who achieved her exciting goal of going on a staycation back in March! ✨

Tanya enjoyed a relaxing getaway at the Travelodge alongside Christina from our Recreation team. Their stay was extra special in the “Under the Sea” themed room!

Of course, no staycation is complete without a full calendar. Tanya treated herself to a shopping spree at Lawson Heights Mall and delicious meals out for breakfast and supper. 🛍🍴

To top it all off, the ladies enjoyed a refreshing swim in the hotel pool.

It’s National AccessAbility Week! ✨

This week, we celebrate the achievements, contributions, and leadership of people with disabilities across Canada. The 2026 theme, “Building a Strong, Accessible Canada,” reminds us that accessibility is the foundation of communities where everyone can thrive.

Accessibility isn’t optional, it’s essential. Barriers - whether physical, attitudinal, social, technological, or informational - can shape how people experience and participate in everyday life. Removing these barriers is key to creating true inclusion. 💖

We believe accessibility is a shared responsibility. By learning, listening, and taking meaningful action together, we can build a more inclusive future. When barriers are removed, we create opportunities, spark innovation, and strengthen connections or everyone.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Mother Earth Greenhouses fundraiser by purchasing a gift card! Thanks to your generosity, we raised $800 to help make our Community Homes bloom with beautiful flowers in no time. 🌷

Our Manager of Community Engagement, Jen, took a trip to Mother Earth Greenhouse to pick up the gift cards and even enjoyed some of their fun features (including the farm animals!). If you haven’t visited yet, we highly recommend stopping by, it’s a wonderful place to be.

Thank you again to our amazing supporters and to Mother Earth Greenhouse for helping make this fundraiser such a success! 💖

Our Supportive Independent Living Program (SILP) crew made the most of March and April with plenty of outings and activities! ✨

With so many sports fans in the group, it’s no surprise they’ve embraced a little friendly competition, whether that’s go-kart racing, shooting pool, cheering on curling, or enjoying a Hockey Night at Sports on Tap.

April also brought a trip to the Saskatoon Expo, where Yvonne got some new ink! 🤘

As always, weekly favorites like Coffee Group and Swimming Group also continue to be a hit. And with warmer weather on the horizon, everyone is excited to take the fun outside to patios and outdoor pools.

Stay tuned to see what adventures SILP has in store this summer! 💖
