Thank you to everyone who attended Queering as Community: Making Space in the Classroom! Your presence, support, and enthusiasm made this an unforgettable day for us as organizers. A special thanks to our hardworking volunteers, mentors, supporters, sponsors, and community partners that made this event possible in the first place. Queering as Community and the WGST AGENTS are pleased to announce an evening performance at Louis’ by ShuĂ­na SkĂł on March 9th at 8:00 PM! ShuĂ­na SkĂł, citizen of The Klamath Tribes (located on the border of Oregon and California), is a Two-Spirit spoken-word poet, internationally known author, and Indigenous Rights Activist. Their poetry gives voice to the “Indigenous experience,” from historical trauma to present-day resilience. ShuĂ­na’s passion is rooted in a deep appreciation for culture, a desire to share teachings that bring healing, and a commitment to honour their ancestors and our future generations. Tickets are available at the door or by Etransfer to q***[email protected]. Queering as Community Conference attendees’ tickets are included in your conference admission! Please note this event is 19+.

Queering as Community is excited to introduce Heather Kuttai! An award-winning author and disability advocate, she recently stepped down as human rights commissioner in response to Saskatchewan’s unethical Bill 137, the Parents Bill of Rights. She is a three-time Paralympic medallist and an experienced provincial and national team coach. She pioneered Disability Services for Students at the University of Saskatchewan, collaborated on several research and writing projects during her time on campus, and she still continues to contribute to academic writing projects. She is a member of the Saskatchewan Sport Hall of Fame, the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, and the recipient of a YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Leadership and Management. Kuttai is also a recent recipient of a U of S Alumni Lifetime Achievement award, and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for service to the province. She is the Vice Chair of the Saskatoon Public Library board, secretary for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre, and a member at large of her community association. She volunteers for the 1989 Canada Games Foundation, and was a commissioner for the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission for eight years until she resigned in protest over the provincial government’s recent legislation on pronouns, names, and s*x education in schools. Delilah Kamuhanda (she/they) is one of our Queering as Community workshop leaders this March! They are a heath educator here in Sakatoon and we are so excited to be working with them.
