Today, we pause to honour the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of this history.

Our hearts are also heavy with Tsawwassen First Nation following the incident this morning. We are thinking of the community members, families, Survivors, and everyone affected as they face this painful moment, as well as the first responders and hospital staff that have been involved.

Throughout September, our paramedics wear orange epaulettes as a visible sign of remembrance, support, and our commitment to listening, learning, and taking meaningful action.

Our Saskatoon Paramedic Association President Russ Grant had the opportunity to speak at the 9/11 memorial held by Saskatoon Firefighters Union yesterday.

25 years—
Since that day on September 11 that would impact many lives and change the world.

2,977 people lost their lives, while so many first responders and civilians ran towards danger to help others.

We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who survived, and the countless first responders who have carried the physical and emotional impacts for 25 years.

As paramedics, we understand the courage it takes to answer the call when others need help most. The events of 9/11 remind us of the extraordinary bravery, dedication, and sacrifice demonstrated by first responders in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

Today, we pause to remember every life lost, every family forever changed, and every first responder who stood on the front lines.

And the Saskatoon Berries Baseball are the WCBL champions!! 🏆⚾️

Some of the Saskatoon Paramedic family got to attend the game yesterday to watch the Saskatoon Berries win their first championship, with a score of 11-1!

This week, members of the Saskatoon Paramedic Association Executive had the opportunity to attend the 58th IAFF Convention in Arlington, Texas.

The IAFF Convention brings together fire fighters and paramedics from across North America to share ideas, discuss the issues affecting our professions, strengthen solidarity, and advocate for the members we represent.

We’re proud to have our executive at the table, representing Saskatoon Paramedics and bringing our voice to the broader IAFF family.

A huge congratulations to our former President, Paul Hills, on receiving the 2026 International Association of Fire Fighters Local Leadership Award at the 58th IAFF Convention in Arlington, Texas!

For more than two decades, Paul has dedicated himself to serving as a paramedic, union leader and tireless advocate for paramedics and first responders across Canada. His commitment to our profession, our members and the causes that matter most has made a lasting impact on our organization and our community.

Although Paul has stepped down as President, he continues to contribute to the Saskatoon Paramedics and remains a passionate advocate for first responder mental health through his work with Homewood Health.

We are incredibly proud to see Paul receive this well-deserved recognition. His leadership, passion and dedication have left a lasting legacy, and we are grateful for everything he has done for paramedics and first responders.

Congratulations, Paul! We are proud to call you one of our own 👏🏼

Today marks an important milestone for first responders across Canada.

On June 15, 2026, Bill C-14 received Royal Assent, and as of today, July 15, 2026, these important changes to the Criminal Code are officially in effect.

The legislation requires courts to treat violence committed against first responders in the line of duty as an aggravating factor during sentencing. When someone is convicted of offences such as assault, uttering threats, or obstruction against a first responder performing their duties, judges must now consider that fact when determining an appropriate sentence. This sends a strong message that violence against emergency personnel will carry more serious legal consequences.

This achievement is the result of years of dedicated advocacy. After Bill C-321 was halted when Parliament was prorogued, the initiative was reintroduced as Bill S-233. While S-233 continues to make its way through Parliament, key provisions of that legislation were incorporated into Bill C-14, ensuring these important protections became law.

We also want to recognize the incredible work of our former President, Paul Hills, whose unwavering advocacy helped drive this amendment to the Criminal Code forward. His commitment, alongside the efforts of many others across the country, especially Todd Doherty , has helped achieve meaningful change that better protects paramedics and all first responders.

Today is an important step forward—not just for our members, but for every emergency responder who puts themselves in harm’s way to serve their communities.

The Saskatoon Paramedic Association is heartbroken by the tragic loss of two Island EMS paramedics and the patient in their care following a devastating ambulance collision in New Brunswick.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families, friends, coworkers, and the entire Island EMS community during this unimaginable time.

We also hold in our thoughts everyone affected by this incident, including the first responders, healthcare workers, and all those touched by this devastating loss.

Rest easy. Your service, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🕊️

Today, our members of the Saskatoon Paramedic Association participated in the Saskatoon Pride Parade in support of the 2SLGBTQI+ community and to celebrate the diversity, inclusion, and strength that make our community better. 🌈

We were also honoured to walk alongside our community partner, the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre, highlighting our shared commitment to supporting our community in different ways.
