We welcome Fr. Gerry Conlan, OMI, a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate serving in the Kenya mission, to Saskatoon! 🇰🇪

Fr. Gerry will be at Holy Family Cathedral tomorrow for the 9:00 am, 11:00 am and 6:30 pm Masses.

Fr Gerry is an Aussie who has served in Kenya for 17 years as parish priest, youth mentor, spiritual director, mission treasurer and projects manager. He brings a wealth of experiences to share with us.

He will share a little about the joy of missionary life and the ways the Missionary Oblates walk alongside and empower youth, families and elders in the communities they serve.

We are grateful to have Fr. Gerry with us and look forward to hearing about his experience in Kenya and the people who have become part of his missionary journey. ❤️

We all carry a story.

There are places we have come from, people who have shaped us, experiences that have changed us and moments that have set us on a new path.

The same is true for the people we encounter through mission.

Every community has its own story. Every missionary has a journey. And every person brings their own hopes, challenges and dreams along the way.

Mission is about meeting people where they are and walking alongside them as they continue their journey.

Sometimes we are the ones offering support.

Sometimes we are the ones being changed by the people we meet.

Either way, we are walking together. 👣💙

At Whispering Oasis in Kisaju, Kenya, a place is being created where young people, women and families can find space to gather, pray, reflect and grow.

The project includes a chapel and meditation garden, creating a welcoming place for people in the community.

This part of the MAMI mission is being supported by the generosity of people who believe in the importance of creating places of hope and connection around the world.

Sixteen donors have contributed more than $1 million toward the project, and another $45,000 was raised at the Starlight Gala in Edmonton this past May.

These numbers tell only a small part of the story.

The real story is the people who will use this space, the families who will gather here, the young people who will find encouragement, and the community that will continue to grow around it.

This is what your compassion can make possible. 💙🌍

What is MAMI?

MAMI stands for the Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate.

Through the generosity of supporters, MAMI helps the Oblates and their partners respond to needs in communities around the world.

That can mean supporting education, food security, pastoral ministry, community projects and other needs identified by the people themselves.

Mission looks different in every place.

What remains the same is the commitment to walk alongside people with dignity, hope and care. 💙

But we can take the next step with trust, knowing that God walks with us.

Faith is more than something we believe. Faith is something we live daily.

It looks like showing up for someone who needs support. Sharing what we have. Making room for others. Offering encouragement. Giving people the opportunity to learn, grow and build a better future.

Through MAMI, the compassion of people here in Canada becomes action in communities around the world.

Every gift, every prayer and every act of generosity can become part of someone else’s journey.

That is faith in action.

And it is something we can all be part of. 💙

No one knows exactly what the road ahead will look like.

There are unexpected turns, new beginnings, difficult stretches and moments that remind us why we keep going.

For the Oblates, the journey often means leaving behind what is familiar and stepping into the lives and communities of others.

For the people they serve, the journey can look very different. It may be a journey toward education, greater opportunity, stronger community or simply a little more hope for tomorrow.

And along the way, we are never meant to walk alone.

Through prayer, compassion and generosity, we become part of one another’s journeys.

Wherever the road leads, we can walk it together. 💙

Mission is something you can read about.

Yet, sometimes you are provided with the opportunity to experience Mission in person.

This September, a group is taking part in the MAMI Missionary Experience in Kenya, visiting several Oblate missions and spending time within local communities.

They are learning, growing and experiencing everyday life in Kenya while seeing firsthand the many ways mission is lived out.

Through MAMI, gifts of compassion become action. They help support opportunities, strengthen communities and bring hope to people who are working toward a better future.

Sometimes the best way to understand the road ahead is to walk it together. 💙
