Since October is RVT month, we thought this would be the perfect time to introduce our first RVT board member! Welcome Lauren!
Lauren Stefaniuk, RVT, began her journey in veterinary medicine working at her neighbourhood small animal clinic in her hometown of Calgary, AB. While studying at Olds College, where she earned her diploma in Animal Health Technology in 2017, Lauren developed a strong interest in bovine medicine and production. This newfound passion led her to complete her practicum at a cow-calf ambulatory practice in Okotoks, AB, opening the door to a career in food animal veterinary medicine. After passing the VTNE, Lauren returned to the Olds area to begin her career as a mixed animal Registered Veterinary Technologist. In March 2020, she joined the team at Veterinary Agri-Health Services (VAHS), a cow-calf and feedlot ambulatory practice based in Rocky View County, AB, where she still practices today. Lauren’s primary responsibilities with VAHS include clinical practice, research, and export administration. Driven by her commitment to professional growth and to better serve both clients and the company, she became certified in bovine pregnancy detection in November 2023, and is currently a candidate with the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Clinical Practice to obtain her Veterinary Technician Specialist designation in the Production Medicine category, pending successfully completion of the final exam. In addition to her individual goals, Lauren is passionate about empowering RVTs to pursue careers in food animal medicine and strives to use her voice to advocate for them to be supported and encouraged to practice to the fullest extent of their training and skills. In September 2024, she had the honour of speaking at the 57th Annual AABP Conference in Columbus, Ohio, where she presented on the value of delegating permitted tasks to credentialed veterinary technicians (CVTs), as well as some organizational tips to help maximize efficiency in the field. Recognizing the growing challenges posed by the veterinary shortage, Lauren believes RVTs play a vital role in enhancing practice productivity, profitability, and reducing the workload on veterinarians. This belief inspired her to pursue a position on the WCABP Board of Directors, where she now proudly serves as the inaugural RVT Ex-Officio member. Lauren is grateful for the opportunity to represent bovine RVTs and is proud to contribute to the continued growth and support of the profession through her involvement with the WCABP.
