The Stan Dean Association is a charitable, non-profit, organization which focuses on bettering society, through charitable donation projects, public memorial projects and other initiatives intended for bettering society. Who was Stan Dean? John ‘Stanley’ Dean was born August 11, 1914 at Mortlach, SK. He grew up on his parent’s farm just south of the town of Riverhurst, SK. He spent almost all his

life on the farm, where he and his family raised, cattle, pigs, chickens, and horses. As well, Stan farmed wheat, barley, oats and canola, plus many other types of crops. Aside from being a full time prairie farmer, Stan was elected as the Reeve of the municipality of Vermillion No.195, which later became Enfield No.194, from 1955-1967 and 1969-1973 for a total of sixteen years of service. He too had status as a Peace Officer and was the presiding Justice of the Peace for the surrounding area. Also he was the first chairperson for the Palliser Regional Park board and even hosted the Primer during visits to the area. Stan was an avid baseball and hockey lover, and was the founder of the Riverhurst Thumpers ball team as well was the president of the Riverlake Senior Men’s Hockey League. In 1989 he was anointed into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame. Stan also contributed to conservation and environmental projects, such as his work for the Burrowing Owl Project and working with Ducks Unlimited Canada in local watershed projects. In addition, he had made many contributions to the local Riverhurst Museum. In 2008 his family farm, where his son continues to farm, celebrated its 100th anniversary. Stan passed away on May 23rd, 2006 in Saskatoon. His contributions on the local and regional level were enormous; he represented the best of Saskatchewan and Canada and we would like to honor him through the Stan Dean Association.
