Saskatoon Open Door Society Saskatoon Open Door Society is a non-profit organization in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada Saskatoon has always been a caring community.

Back in the mid to late 1970s, when many Vietnamese refugees were arriving in Canada, many individuals and community organizations joined together to help them settle. It was through their compassion and dedication that the Saskatoon Open Door Society was born. And it continues to help newcomers settle...40 years later! Saskatoon Open Door Society offers programs and services in four main areas: Settlement & Family Services, Settlement & Community Support, Employment Services and Language Training & Daycare. The agency has approximately 170 staff plus some 300 volunteers who are engaged in many programs which connect newcomers to the community.

Build your leadership skills. Expand your network. Make a positive impact in your community.

Applications for the LACE (Leadership and Community Engagement) Program’s Winter 2026–2027 intake open October 26!

This 36+ hour leadership development program is designed to help you:

• Strengthen your leadership and interpersonal skills
• Connect with community leaders and local organizations
• Develop team leadership skills
• Earn a Leadership Certificate

Program dates: December 5, 2026 to February 27, 2027
Application period: October 26 to November 13, 2026
Deadline to apply: November 13, 2026

Program schedule: Eight sessions total, including five Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and three Wednesdays from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Eligibility:
• Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 or higher
• Newcomer to Canada with legal status to work or study
• Online application, resume and interview required

One more scoop of ice cream… what could possibly go wrong?

Meet One More Scoop, a heartwarming comedy created by talented newcomer youth through the Digital Storytelling Workshop 2026 at Saskatoon Open Door Society!

A boy who loves ice cream faces an unexpected challenge: lactose intolerance. Through humour, self-discovery, and a few stomach aches, he learns an important lesson about self-acceptance and enjoying life's sweetest moments.

But the real magic happened behind the camera!

From scriptwriting and acting to directing, filming, and editing, our youth participants brought this original story to life while building confidence, creativity, teamwork, and filmmaking skills.

Their ideas. Their creativity. Their stories brought to life.

Through our Digital Storytelling Workshop, newcomer youth have the opportunity to express themselves, develop digital media skills, and share meaningful stories with the community.

This project was made possible through the support of the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and Saskatoon Open Door Society (SODS).

This funding will provide newcomer youth with an exciting opportunity to learn and enjoy skateboarding while building confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging.
