We are so sad to share that everyone’s favourite coworker, our HR Manager, our beloved Rogue, has passed away.

In true Rogue fashion, she had a beautiful final few days. She spent her day off at the lake with Debbie, running through the leaves. The next day, she came to work with the whole team, napped through meetings, and fetched treats from Kristi and Rebecca. That night, she was ready to go, at home, in Debbie’s arms.

Rogue read every person who came through our door and behaved accordingly. If you were unsure, she was calm and peaceful. If you wanted to play, she’d find her ball. And if you really needed a furry friend during a hard conversation, she’d be right there on your lap. She only needed to be introduced once to know your name forever. And on a quiet day, she was the perfect companion to chat away to.

If you remember one thing about Rogue, remember how she greeted each day with joy and excitement. And when you’re having a tough day, channel your inner Rogue.

She was a very good girl, and we will miss her very, very much.

Our volunteers aren’t “just” volunteers. They’re champions - ambassadors for our mission, and for our clients, a lifeline of comfort, companionship, and dignity when it matters most.

They sit with people who are scared. They listen to stories that deserve to be heard. They give families a moment to breathe. They show up, again and again, at one of the hardest points in someone’s life so no one has to face it alone.

And the need keeps growing. Every year in Saskatoon, more people and families need someone to walk alongside them - and every year, we need more champions willing to answer that call.

You’ve spent a lifetime showing up for people. What if the next chapter meant showing up for someone who needs it the most?

Prairie Hospice volunteers give 4 hours a week - and how those hours look is entirely up to you. Read a favourite book aloud. Sit with someone over coffee and let them tell you their life story. Drive someone to an appointment. Give a tired caregiver an afternoon to breathe. Sometimes the biggest difference comes from the smallest, simplest moments.

Our volunteer community includes retired teachers, farmers, nurses, tradespeople, students, and grandparents - people from every walk of life who understand that a good listener is sometimes the most powerful gift there is.

We take it seriously, because the families we serve are trusting us with the most vulnerable moments of their lives - and we make sure you’re never doing this alone. You’ll have real training, a caring Volunteer Coordinator, and a whole community behind you every step of the way.
