Wanda was a true champion for labour, never afraid to speak her mind and advocate for workers.
She will be missed. 💔
I’m so sorry to hear that Wanda Bartlett passed away last night. Her many friends in the labour movement, the NDP, the Co-op system, and everyone who knew her in Weyburn will be grieving today.
Wanda was the President of RWDSU, coming up from a rank-and file-member to represent retail workers like her and fighting for their rights.
She spent decades being one of the backbones of the Saskatchewan labour movement, including many years on the SFL executive and being a driving force behind SFL/CLC Spring School.
She served several years as Labour Vice-President to the NDP, a provincial councillor, and often president of the Weyburn constituency. She was a proud employee of the Prairie Sky Co-op in Weyburn, receiving her 45-year service award last year. And, as anyone who follows her Facebook knows, Wanda was huge lover of cats — adoption notices from the Weyburn Humane Society were always in competition for most popular post on her wall with pictures of the latest classic rock tribute band show she’d bought tickets to.
Her quiet, steady, thoughtful contributions to labour, the party and her community will be missed. So too will be her sharp sense of humour and hearty laughter.
I’ll be sad not to spend another election cycle attempting to convince her to be our Weyburn candidate while she found new and creative ways to tell me no. I had so thought I was going to win one day.
Wanda, you will be hugely missed.
