As harvest season unfolds across Saskatchewan, we’re sharing a piece of PFE choreography inspired by Obzhynky (Обжинки) - the traditional Ukrainian celebration marking the completion of the harvest.

For generations, Obzhynky brought communities together to give thanks for the harvest, honour the hard work of those who brought it in, and celebrate the abundance of the land. Songs, dances and traditions marked the end of the season and looked ahead to the year to come.

This season, and especially with thanksgiving just around the corner, we extend our thanks to the farmers across Saskatchewan and beyond who work tirelessly to put food on our tables and keep our communities growing. 🌾

PFEature Friday time!✨

From watching PFE perform around Saskatoon to becoming part of the cast herself… meet Rae Lacoursiere!

Rae first started Bridging with the Ensemble in 2023 and became a cast member in 2025. Before PFE, she danced with Rushnychok Ukrainian Dance .

Growing up, Rae was drawn to PFE’s unique choreography and the performance quality of the dancers she watched on stage. With her mom also being a PFE alumna, joining the Ensemble felt like a natural next step.

When she’s not dancing, Rae is a second-year Kinesiology student at the University of Saskatchewan. She keeps busy with an impressive list of hobbies: reading, crocheting, golfing, hockey, downhill and water skiing, wakeboarding, going to the gym, and hiking!

She also works with younger dancers during the school year through private sessions, helping them develop their dance skills, and spends her summers working maintenance at Wakaw Lake Golf Course.

We’re excited to have Rae as part of the Ensemble! 💙💛

It’s PFEature Friday! ✨

Meet Rebecca Vereschagin, a PFE dancer currently in her 15th season with the ensemble!

Before PFE, Rebecca danced with Saskatoon School of Dance. As she grew up watching PFE perform and trained in ballet and Ukrainian dance with Miss P, Serhij, and PFE alumni, performing with PFE was always a goal of hers. As she puts it, “It has always had a place in my life.”

Rebecca’s favourite things about PFE are the choreography, the connection to the Ukrainian community and her culture, and, of course, the people who make up the ensemble.

One of her favourite PFE memories is performing at the Canadian National Ukrainian Festival’s 50th Anniversary Grandstand Show, then having the opportunity to perform there again for the 60th!

Outside of PFE, Rebecca works as a graphic designer, curls in the winter, and spends her free time creating art and working on costuming.

Not only has she been with PFE for 15 of her 26 dancing years, her involvement with the ensemble extends far beyond the stage. Rebecca has spent 6 years on the PFE Executive, including 2 years as Costume Liaison and 4 years as Secretary, as well as 9 years as Registration and Program Coordinator for the PFE Dance Showcase Committee.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and countless hours dedicated to PFE over the years, Rebecca has truly been part of the fabric of this Ensemble. 💙💛
