To coincide with Week of Reflection, the Office of the Vice Provost Indigenous Engagement is putting on a workshop this Thursday with Chris Chipak, the artist who designed this years orange shirt. The workshop runs from 10-12pm, and then again from 1-3pm with lunch provided from 12-1pm. They’re running it twice in one day to try and sync up with as many student schedules as possible. USask Law is happy to announce that Chris Lafleur will continue as director of the Indigenous Law Centre (ILC) after agreeing to a three-year extension of his term. Chris, a Métis lawyer from Saskatchewan, joined the ILC in August 2024 after a 30-year career with the federal Department of Justice. He had previously served as the ILC’s acting director in 2016. The ILC has been bustling since Chris’s return in August 2024 and we’re looking forward to more growth and activity.

We’re also delighted that Cultural Advisor Joseph Naytowhow, based in the ILC, has agreed to a one-year extension of his term. We are grateful for Joseph’s friendly, wise presence in our college.

Since its founding nearly 50 years ago, the ILC has been committed to:
◾facilitating access to legal education for Indigenous people;
◾disseminating information about Indigenous people and the law;
◾advocating for Canada’s laws and legal system to better accommodate the advancement of Indigenous people and communities.
