Quilts, Quilts and more quilts!

In the first photo, the pile on the cart is quilt tops ready to be paired with the backing. Second photo showing just a few of many quilts that are completed and ready to be picked up by one of our community liasons, to be distributed to children in need.

Each year we make and donate hundreds of quilts. Literally hundreds! They are all distributed to children who need them for whatever reason. We don't ask the reasons, we're just happy to know that a child will be all the warmer with one of our quilts! ❤

The quilts are all made with donated fabrics, and when we run low on specific fabrics that we may need for the quilts, we buy it. Thankfully that doesn't happen all that often!

How does a person write a about a woman who has done so much for so many for over 24 years?

Our founder and Director Edna Poncelet announced her retirement last year. So we had alot of time to consider what she has done for many people. She started Cloth for Kids with barely any fabric and only a small handful of volunteers to assist her (a few of them are still with us today!). But she had the will to make the lives of so many children better, even if it's only in a small way. And she did.

We gathered recently to celebrate Edna and her husband Lorne who has unfailingly supported her and Cloth for Kids these many years. There were over 50 of us there and many memories were shared! One of the ladies at the luncheon was the community volunteer at the very first school that Cloth for Kids provided quilts and clothing and other items and she shared her story of meeting Edna. Later on, she was one of many to nominate Edna for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal, which Edna received in 2018.

Many happy tears were shed, memories shared, speeches of gratitude and so much more! It was a happy day and one that none of us, especially Edna, will soon forget!

Edna hasn't left us entirely though, as she has a special talent that few others have - Machine Specialist Extraordinaire! She's the Machine Whisperer!

To celebrate the holiday season, another successful year and a 99th birthday, all of our volunteers met for sewing in the morning today, then a veritable feast of a wonderful pot luck lunch! So much good food!

And if that wasn't enough, we brought in a cake to celebrate the 99th birthday of one of our longest serving volunteers!

We'll be back in January after a much needed break!

We're happy to announce the details of our Annual Christmas Fundraiser sale!

Come join us on Thurs Nov 20 from 10-2:30pm. You'll find a beautiful selection of all handmade items - all made by our talented volunteers! Kitchen goods, scarves, quilted items, gift bags and so much more.

Bring your own shopping bags and please note that payment terms are cash or cheque only.

We're also having a raffle! This beautiful vintage style quilt fits a queen size bed and is our grand prize, valued at approximately $500. A small lap quilt is the second prize and third prize is a crocheted angel (photo not available just yet).

Are you thinking of making a charitable donation before the end of the year? Not sure how your donation will be used?

Cash donations received here at C4K are used 100% towards the purchase of fabrics, notions etc that are needed to create clothing and quilts for children in need in Saskatchewan. There are no administration fees that are deducted from your donation!

We issue tax receipts for donations of $20 and up, so if you're considering a donation send us a message for more information!

We are so very grateful yet again for a huge donation of quilt batting from a manufacturing business! They learned of our group last year and love what we do! The storage unit is full once again but not for long as we use up one of these batting rolls every 3 weeks - we can get approximately 40-50 quilts from one roll, depending on the quilt size.

Our hearts are once again brimming with gratitude! We recently received a grant of $1000 from the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation and we are ever so grateful for their grant. We also received an in-kind donation of 3 bales of batting from someone who is very familiar with what we do and we are also ever so grateful! We'll be purchasing more batting with the K of C grant, so Edna's storage unit will be nice and full with the batting bales! This means that our quilt making makers can carry on without interruption! :)
