🔬 Research Student Profile: Ella Williams

Ella Williams recently finished the fourth year of her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Calgary.

“In my final year, I thoroughly enjoyed researching HD using neuroimaging under the supervision of Dr. Yohan Yee.”

When not focused on her studies, you can find Ella at a new restaurant with friends and family, dissecting a novel for book club, or volunteering with her church youth group. Ella also has a passion for the arts and enjoys making cards and working part-time at a theatre.

🔬 Research Student Profile: Jeea Thakker

Jeea Thakker is a student at McMaster University who is deeply interested in neuroscience and the challenge of understanding complex brain disorders like Huntington disease.

“I am passionate about research that bridges science and real patient impact, and I am excited to spend my summer learning, asking questions, and contributing to meaningful discovery.”

Outside the lab and classroom, Jeea can be found DJing, experimenting in the kitchen, or spending quality time with her younger sister. This summer, she is eager to step into a new research environment, challenge herself, and be part of work that pushes the field forward.

Jeea is conducting her fellowship research at Western University.

Exciting News for Youth Affected by Huntington Disease! 📣💙

Second-round funding applications for YPAHD Day 2026 are now open! If you are planning to attend, be sure to apply as soon as possible—remaining funds are limited and will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Event Details:
* Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026
* Location: Four Points by Sheraton Toronto Mississauga (Mississauga, ON)
* What it is: A one-day conference presenting topics, information, and community connections tailored specifically to youth.

Who Should Attend?
YPAHD Day is designed for youth aged 14–35 who:
* Are gene-positive, negative, or at-risk for HD
* Are partners of someone with HD or at-risk for HD
* Are caregivers to loved ones living with HD
* Have family members affected by HD

Funding Support May Include:
* Complimentary registration for YPAHD Day
* 1 night of shared accommodation
* Flight or mileage subsidy

Key Application Details:
* Applications are reviewed as they come in.
* Once approved, all registration steps from HSC must be completed by October 11, 2026 (otherwise, funding expires).

💙Today we celebrate the birthday of Ariel Walker, co-founder of the Huntington Society of Canada.

For more than 50 years, Ariel has served as a guiding light to the Huntington disease (HD) community. She’s been a listening ear. An organizer and advocate. But most of all, she has been a true friend.
