All are invited to one more special event at George Pegg Botanic Garden, The Changing Canvas - Autumn in The Garden, taking place Sunday, September 27 from noon to 4:00 PM.

Lisa Matthias, our Artist in Residence, has been busy creating beautiful pieces of art all summer. Drop-in during the afternoon to meet Lisa and see her gallery of art in the log home and Visitor Centre.

This is a rare opportunity for visitors to see the beautiful autumn colours at the Garden - a perfect time for family photos. We’ll have the wood stove going, take-home art activities for children and adults, hot beverages & sweet snacks!

Admission is by donation. We look forward to seeing you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 12th Annual Art in the Garden Outdoor Show & Sale on Sunday! It was a gorgeous, sunny day!🌞

Visitors were able to meet and support 14 different local artists, including our talented Artist in Residence, Lisa Matthias. Kiddos could unleash their own creativity and make pins and clay plant impressions to take home. In addition to all the inspiring artwork, folks could also learn about our rich agricultural heritage with displays for Alberta Open Farm Days!

Thank you to everyone who came by! Our last day open is Monday, August 31st.

Art in the Garden new Artist Feature: Oksana Izio

As a mouth painting artist who lives with paralysis, my motivation to paint comes from the joy of creating beauty. While there are challenges of living with paralysis, I am proud to still be painting, even if it is by mouth.

I’m drawn to landscapes, wildlife, and pet portraits. Travel and volunteer work across Alberta, British Columbia, and Nunavut shape my vision.

I work in oil on canvas and wood, transforming limitation into focus, presence, and beauty.

Art in the Garden new Artist and Artist in Residence Feature: Lisa Matthias

Lisa Matthias is an interdisciplinary artist and trained ecologist based in Parkland County, Alberta. She holds an MFA in Printmaking and an MSc in Botany, and her practice integrates rigorous ecological research with experimental printmaking techniques including woodcut, etching, and animation. Her work often engages with living plant communities, herbarium collections, and environmental change, translating scientific observation into visually rich, conceptually driven artworks. Matthias has exhibited widely in Canada and the United States and has held artist residencies at home and abroad, with schools, parks, and research institutions. She is known for research-based projects that combine art-making, public engagement, and environmental education.

Art in the Garden new Artist Feature: Papa Ian's Woodworks

My primary focus is wood turning. My introduction to this craft was High School shop in the early 70’s. I always wanted a lathe, and after retirement, I was able to focus on my craft. I primarily make bowls and small “lidded boxes”. I find great satisfaction taking a raw piece of wood and turning it into an art piece. I never know what it will become, and am always amazed at what is hiding in the wood.

Art in the Garden new Artist Feature: Natalie LaForest

Natalie LaForest is a glass artist focusing on stained glass and fused glass located in Edmonton, Alberta. Inspiration is drawn from Alberta's landscape which includes plants, mountains, and farmers fields. To be sustainable and environmental conscious, a lot of the glass is repurposed or bought second hand from retired glass artists.
