Our broader community is grieving following the tragedy in Tumbler Ridge. Even youth who did not personally know anyone involved may still experience emotional responses, as community events impact us collectively. During times like this, connection and belonging are especially important.
Young people process grief in many different ways and on different timelines. Some may want to talk right away, others may prefer quiet or distraction, and some may not fully process their feelings until weeks or months later. All responses are valid.
The Core remains a safe, welcoming community space where youth can gather, connect with peers, and access support. On-site staff are available to listen, and we can help connect youth with professional counsellors when needed. Simply being surrounded by a caring community can make a meaningful difference.
We encourage families to remind youth that they are not alone — that healing happens together, and that support is available whenever they are ready, whether that is today, next week, or next month.
