Let's talk about belonging! What helps people feel that they belong on Salt Spring Island? What makes it easier or harder to feel connected to the community?

The Salt Spring Island Foundation is inviting people to join an in-person focus group, to share their experiences and perspectives about belonging on this island.

What we hear will help inform the upcoming 2027 Vital Signs Report, which looks at the health and well-being of Salt Spring's community and economy. The report is used by local governments, charities, and nonprofit organizations to help shape programs, funding and priority decisions.

Interested in participating? We would especially love to hear from folks who identify within the following demographics:

-Racialized persons
-2SLGBTQIA+
-Residents on low or modest income
-Parents of children with extra support needs

For those not selected, there will be an opportunity to share your voice through a public survey launching in January 2027.

Grant alert! 📣 The Foundation of Youth (FOY) program is now open for applications from October 1st to October 31st. Local organizations can access project or operations funding for youth-serving initiatives occurring in 2027.

Apply for up to $15,000 for opportunities that support education and quality of life for youth on Salt Spring, through increased participation in a healthy, diverse, accessible, and equitable community culture.

Water on the land reduces wildfire risks

💧 Healthier forests hold water better, and forests that hold water are less prone to carrying a wildfire. Part of the education we're building for landowners covers simple ways to keep water on the land, so it sinks into the soil instead of running off. Moister ground, healthier forest, lower risk.

Beyond the standard 30-metre FireSmart zone, Transition Salt Spring is building education for landowners on reducing risk in the forests and ecosystems around their homes, starting with dead and dry vegetation and branches.
