Salt Spring is about to get a big dose of community enlivening! The 2026 Neighbourhood Small Grants will see 46 local recipients, the biggest number to date, launch projects that reflect Salt Spring’s famous creative spirit, willingness to share knowledge, and strong commitment to making the island a safer place. Projects include unique workshops, interactive concerts, local gatherings, pop-up entertainment, programs for youth, cultural arts and cuisine, celebrations of identity, neighbourhood safety initiatives, and much more.

A heartfelt thank you to the program’s donors and partners, including the Victoria Foundation, the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust, Island Community Services, and to Country Grocer, whose gift card sponsorship made it possible to fund even more great ideas.

Congratulations to the Neighbourhood Small Grant recipients and thank you to all applicants for your dedication to making Salt Spring Island an even better place to live.

Well done Salt Spring! 👏 Your continued support to the Foundation enables local kids' access to sports and creates life-changing opportunities in their lives. 🚣

Heartfelt thanks to the Salt Spring Island Foundation for their outstanding ongoing commitment and support. Donations like theirs generate results like this:

"I want to express my deepest gratitude for the generous support you have provided to our family through the funding for rowing. This financial assistance has made such a meaningful difference in their lives and has opened the door to an incredible opportunity for growth, teamwork, and self-discovery.

Rowing has become more than just a sport for my kids—it’s a source of confidence, joy, and connection. Watching them out on the water, pushing themselves, learning perseverance, and fostering friendships has been truly inspiring. This experience is shaping who they are in such a positive way, and it would not have been possible without your help.

Your dedication to supporting youth in pursuing their passions is a gift to families like ours, and I can’t thank you enough for believing in our kids. Your generosity reminds us of the power of community and the impact we can have on one another’s lives.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for investing in our children and their future. We are forever grateful for your kindness and support."

Most locals would attest to the fact that Salt Spring is powered by volunteers. That's reflected in over 150 non-profits on island, the bulk of which are 100% volunteer-run! As many local volunteers wind up their long dedication to their roles, bringing the next generation in to fill the gaps has never been more important.
Volunteer BC is collecting data through a survey below to help shape how communities can encourage more volunteerism across the province. Have your say!

Announcing a brand new funding program for organizations to partner with Indigenous knowledge holders, elders, and other types of cultural workers, in a good way.
