Harvest Mondays have begun!
We’ll have a small harvest tomorrow and we still have work to complete to grow even more!
It can be a great opportunity to begin a routine of coming and helping and getting to know our garden space!

Have any extra from your garden right now? Come bring it up to our harvest so it can all make its way down to Second Harvest. Melanie has far too many radishes at the moment and so will bring those along too.

Our first Harvest of the season! And while small, the bounty is beautiful! Some of the biggest radishes yet, some prehistoric size rhubarb, fresh herbs and overwintered leeks!
The harvests have just begun and this year can shape into a wonderful season with the help of the garden crew and volunteers and our efforts to build the soil fertility and maintain moisture.

Happening tomorrow, 1-2pm, Composting 101, alongside our Spring Work Bee at the Shuswap Teaching Shuswap Community Teaching Garden! Are you wanting to add fertility to your garden so you can grow your best garden yet? From 1-2pm, we'll go over the basics to make your own compost - Black Gold - and to get started this Spring. You can see a number of systems in place here at the Garden!

We'll talk ingredients, how to build a pile, how long it all takes and also see first hand as a pallet compost bay is built on-site!

Sunday Sessions are by donation and that can be a cash donation OR a donation of your time! If you can stay after the class to lend a hand in the garden as we prepare for growing as much naturally grown produce to share in our community, we would appreciate the help!
This work can include, raking leaves (an excellent compost ingredient), pulling w**ds, loosening the soil, &adding compost to our rows.

We are encouraging a community seed and plant exchange so bring any extras you might have.

Toilet on-site, tools available, kids play space and refreshments provided.

We'd love to have you join us! The more who learn and grow their own food, the more that can be shared and that will be good for all of us!

This Sunday, Jan. 11th from 1-2pm, our Sunday Session hosts Katie Joya with West Coast Seeds who will teach more about how to Grow your Own at Home: container gardening and sprouting.
Not everyone has space to have large gardens (or at all) so it's important folks can learn how they can make use of space indoors and on patios to enjoy growing food and accessing that amazing nutrition!
You'll learn about crop/plant selection, lighting needs, container sizes, soil to use and also learn more about sprouting, one of the ultimate health foods.
Registration is important as we do need a minimum of 5 to host a class. You can register on our website www.shuswapfood.ca/sunday-sessions and see a list of other planned classes.
We're back for the 2026 season, providing education and encouragement to the community to Get Growin'! Sunday Sessions for Self Sufficiency will be at Buckerfield's Salmon Arm each Sunday from 1-2 until April with additional Sundays hosted in various locations all the way into May. Come learn with us and take that knowledge into your own homes, neighbourhoods and the whole community!
