Meet Hazel!

Hazel is a beautiful, big grey girl with an equally big personality! At 5 years old, Hazel is looking for a quiet home where she can finally relax and feel safe. She is a little on the chonky side, so a healthy diet and plenty of opportunities to get moving will help her feel her best.

Hazel has had a difficult time adjusting to the shelter and can take some time to feel comfortable in new surroundings. Once she starts to trust you, though, she has a sweet side to show! She enjoys coming over to you and rubbing against your legs, but she can be a little nervous about hands.

Hazel will need a patient adopter who is willing to let her set the pace, give her time to settle in, and help her build confidence without rushing her. She would do best as the only animal in a quiet, indoor-only home where she can have a peaceful space to call her own.

With patience, understanding, and a little time, Hazel may blossom into a wonderful companion. She’s just waiting for someone who is willing to see the sweet girl underneath that slightly sassy exterior! ❤️

The BC SPCA is offering free BC Pet Registry registrations for pet owners affected by wildfires whose pets are already microchipped.

To get started, simply email [email protected] and our team will help you get set up. ❤️

We're also planning free microchip clinics for pets who have not yet been microchipped. Stay tuned for details on upcoming clinic dates and locations.

When emergencies force families to evacuate, a microchip paired with an up-to-date registration can make all the difference in helping reunite lost pets with the people who love them.

Kestrel has been lovingly raised in foster care along with her brother, Kinglet, and is now ready for a home of her own.

She would love a home to give her lots of love and attention, maybe even one with another resident cat would suit her. She will be getting spayed August 19th and ready to go home soon after.

Kittens need lots of attention and a safe environment for them to grow into great pets. Raising a kitten is a big commitment but well worth it when you consider they will be a part of your family for up to 20 years.

If Kestrel seems like a good fit for you, please follow the application steps below.

Hey Shuswap and beyond!

With wildfires burning all around us, we want to make sure we are helping however we can!

If you are evacuated and need emergency boarding for your animals, need supplies like animal food, water, leashes, collars, bowls or cat litter. Or if you had to leave an animal behind when you evacuated, please reach out!

We are also down at our local evacuation centre at the Prestige ready to help any evacuees with whatever animal related help that may be needed!

We have Animal Protection Officers who work with local emergency agencies and, when authorized and safe to do so, can travel behind evacuation lines to provide food and care for animals sheltering in place. In some cases, they can also help get animals out who had to be left behind during an evacuation and reunite them with their families.
Contact our Animal Helpline at 1-855-622-7722 to access any of these supports or give us a call at the Centre if you have questions 250-832-7376

If you haven't done it already, make sure you have a plan in place if you do need to evacuate. Stay safe everyone!

*edit: ADOPTED!*
Meet Timmy – our three-legged wonder pup!

Don’t let his missing leg fool you. Timmy is a confident, beautiful and typical German Shepard puppy with tons of energy. He’s social, friendly and incredibly active, despite still recovering from amputation surgery.

Timmy loves squeaky toys, a good game of fetch and his people. He may also love a tolerant canine companion who can match his energy level. His ideal home will have experience with the breed and a willingness to accommodate and help him adapt to his disability.

Timmy is at the age where training and routine are critical, so he needs the consistency, patience and love of her new guardian to show him the ways of developing into a mature and fulfilled adult dog. Adopters are encouraged to attend puppy obedience classes, but the basics are a must – leash training, socializing with people and other dogs, and, of course, house training.

Timmy is currently recovering in foster care and not available to be viewed at the shelter. If you think Timmy could be a good fit for you, please fill out an application below:

Meet sweet Sosa! https://adopt.spca.bc.ca/pets/792201/

She is a delightful young mixed breed whose gentle nature, kind eyes and spirited personality make her an instant favourite with everyone she meets! She is a girl ready for anything alongside people she loves. She will play with her toys, go for walks, or simply enjoy time together.

Sosa would love to join an active home who could bring her on adventures. She would do best with a confident adopter who is willing to work on continued training, socialization, and creating positive experiences both inside and outside of the home. Sosa hasn’t always had an easy life, so she is excited to please and wants to soak up new learning.

Prospective adopters should be prepared to understand that although she is typically a care-free, happy girl, she does have a soft side. Sosa came into care with her puppies, and being a single mom was no piece of cake! Due to being a super-mom, she has developed some areas of skin-sensitivity on her stomach which she is currently being treated for. Sosa would love for her adopters to be committed to her long-term health and happiness with regular vet visits to ensure that, and to finally provide the comfort, rest, and activity she very much deserves.
