Shuswap Community Foundation

Shuswap Community Foundation At Shuswap Community Foundation we connect donors with the causes that matter in our community. Here in the Shuswap, these connections are even more profound.

CONNECTING PEOPLE
We live in a world where we are connected with other people – socially, politically, economically, and environmentally. Increased trade between countries, the growth of international organizations, and changes in transport and communications technology mean that these connections are rapidly increasing. We share geography, resources, and the many benefits of living in central Bri

tish Columbia. Because of these close connections, it is all the more difficult for us to ignore the need felt by those around us. UNITING THE SHUSWAP
The entire Shuswap must be united in a concern for the communities we live in and the people we live with. Caring for our environment, the education of the generations that will follow us, our seniors that have preceded us, and the ability for all to enjoy the quality of life that the Shuswap can provide. With these connections in mind, Shuswap Community Foundation seeks to unite those who care about our communities with those organizations addressing the needs of our Shuswap. WHAT WE DO
Shuswap Community Foundation is a public, non-profit organization created by and for the people of Shuswap. It connects donors who care with causes that matter and serves as a trusted resource for addressing issues and leveraging opportunities in the community. It attracts and manages a growing endowment, the invested earnings of which provide grants to charitable organizations. The Foundation’s role is a neutral broker in support of all charitable causes that contribute to the community’s quality of life. With a growing profile, Shuswap Community Foundation has built an enviable reputation for astute financial management, high-quality donor services, strategic grant-making, and innovative partnerships.

These beautiful sunny days are bringing more of us out on the lakes making it a good time to express our continued gratitude to the folks at Shuswap Lifeboat Society! ⚓️❤️ This volunteer crew of 25 provide water based rescue response - 24/7 - 365 days/year to our region. Last year, through our semi-annual grant program, the Foundation contributed to "greening" their boathouse with solar panels, which saves them tons of money in operating costs.

Please help us welcome Monica Sigurdson to the team! She will be joining Robyn in the office December 1st!

The Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Monica Sigurdson as its new Executive Director. The announcement was made today by John White, President of the Board, following a thorough and extensive selection process.

Monica joins the Foundation as she and her family settle into Salmon Arm from Manitoba. A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), she brings more than a decade of leadership experience in Canadian philanthropy and social finance. Her background includes building innovative programs, stewarding major partnerships, and strengthening community-based giving across a range of organizations.

Most recently, Monica served as Director of Philanthropy at iDE Canada, where she led national fundraising efforts in support of international development programs. Her work spanned major gifts, legacy giving, and strategic donor engagement to advance initiatives that support women entrepreneurs and sustainable livelihoods around the world.

Prior to her time at iDE, Monica spent six years at the Jubilee Fund in Manitoba, serving as Fund Development Manager. During her tenure, she helped launch Canada’s first Rent Guarantee Program for at-risk women and secured multimillion-dollar social-finance partnerships aimed at reducing poverty at the local level. Her work involved collaborating closely with businesses and investors to bring ethical capital to community-based initiatives.

Monica has also been an active contributor to the Canadian gift-planning community. She has served on the board of the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) and presented at both regional and national events on legacy and planned giving practices.

John White, President of the Shuswap Community Foundation, welcomed the appointment.
“Monica brings a strong combination of experience, community-minded leadership, and a deep understanding of philanthropy. Her track record of building partnerships and supporting local solutions will serve the Shuswap well. We are delighted to have her leading the Foundation into its next chapter.”

Monica shared her enthusiasm for the role and the region.
“I am honoured to join the Shuswap Community Foundation and look forward to connecting with local donors, organizations, and volunteers. The Shuswap has a strong spirit of generosity, and I’m excited to help nurture a giving ecosystem that reflects the needs and strengths of this community.”

Outside of her professional work, Monica enjoys being outdoors and coaching basketball. She looks forward to making new connections throughout the region as she and her family establish roots in Salmon Arm.
