What a Massive Asset to our community! Well Done!

Welcome everyone!

We are off on another business venture, and we are excited to be far enough to announce it to the public. Nearly a year ago, we were visiting friends when equine cremation came up in conversation. It got us thinking and we quickly realized how limited the aftercare options are in our area, especially for larger animals like horses.

We are fortunate to have space where we can bury our own animals, but not everyone has that option. Whether it’s being at a boarding facility, living in town, dealing with shallow wells, or simply wanting to keep ashes, many owners are left without a solution during an already difficult time.

Through running Spa Alp Equines LTD, we’ve seen firsthand the situations people are faced with, and it’s something that’s stuck with us.

After nearly a year of planning, research, a trip to see an incinerator unit and working through the permitting process, we’re excited to finally say things are moving forward. We officially placed the order for our incinerator unit from the UK, and the build has begun.

Our goal is to provide respectful, reliable cremation service for horses, livestock, and pets in the North Okanagan, including pick-up options to help make the process as smooth as possible.

We will also be offering options for custom keepsakes, including urns, for those who wish to keep a lasting memory of their animal.

We’re on track to be operational in August and will be sharing updates along the way, including the arrival and setup of the unit, as well as more information on cremation, our services and pricing over the coming months.

We’re looking forward to bringing this service to the community!

The Alberta government doesn't want you to see this photo.

The Alberta government doesn't want you to think of wild mountain horses as sentient beings with close family bonds, living a historical existence in the wild, intrinsically woven into the fabric of the landscape along with wolves, bears, elk, deer, coyotes, foxes, moose and other wildlife.

The Alberta government does, however, want you to view mountain horses as feral, of no value, and a nuisance. Because that will make their job easier when they start removing them from the wild, to replace them with privately owned cattle.

The Alberta government does NOT want to hear from you.

Which is exactly WHY they need to hear from us.

Be a rebel with a cause.

Only WE can save the endangered mountain horses of Alberta.

Please write or call the decision makers below. Tell them you're against any plans to reduce the numbers of horses in the wild.

Your horse just kicked the farrier… again?! 😱
Let’s stop turning your farrier into a punching bag.

Most “farrier issues” are not mean horses. They’re under trained feet and rushed handling, especially in winter.

You do not need long training sessions.
You need a 2 minute daily habit that stacks fast.

The Minimum Effective Dose (do this while feeding or turning out):
1. Stand still + square (20 sec)
If they drift, calmly reset. No drama.
2. Pick up + hold each foot low and comfortable (about 10 to 20 sec per foot)
You set the foot down when they are calm.
Do not reward yanking. Wait for one calm second, then release.

Quick progression:
Week 1: 3 to 5 sec per foot
Week 2: 5 to 10 sec
Weeks 3 to 6: build to 20 to 60 sec with tiny breaks

Once a week: 5 minute “Farrier Rehearsal”
Longer holds, light hoof pick taps, tiny position shifts.

Winter bonus: pick hooves daily in mud and manure. Easiest thrush prevention ever.

Who’s tried a routine like this? Drop a ❤️ if your farrier has horror stories like these pics.

An update on the STRANGLES issue we have had in our area (Thompson Okanagan/Okanagan)

To the best of our knowledge, the last case of strangles was diagnosed approximately 6 weeks ago. No new diagnosis since that has been confirmed or reported.

Strangles is not a reportable disease in BC. It is highly negligent for horse owners or facilities to not have vet care to diagnose this issue.

Strangles is highly contagious.

Equine Disease Communication Centre (EDCC) also try’s to maintain record of reports of horse disease, but is voluntary.

If you feel this should change, speak to your MLA.

We have now opened back up to volunteers and the public with minimal bio security in place for visits to the rescue.

It is vitally important for all horse facilities whether formal or private to take responsibility in caring for their horses and properties and decreasing risks of infection to you and others in your community.
