A Compass for Guiding Young People to Build Their Future with Confidence
On the morning of June 10, at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF), two international experts and founders of the non-profit organizations UCM and SCT, Professor Francis L. Kaya and Professor Christiane Muller, led an inspiring and thought-provoking discussion with students. They were joined by Ms. Phan Linh, psychologist, lecturer, and Director of MyEQ Center and UCM Vietnam.
The theme, “Finding Direction for the Future: Moving Beyond Confusion and Discovering the Right Path,” highlighted a concerning reality: many young adults enter their twenties feeling uncertain, disoriented, and lacking a genuine understanding of themselves.
According to the experts, this feeling of uncertainty when facing important life choices is extremely common. However, the deeper issue is that many young people have never been given the tools needed to understand and accept these emotions as a natural part of the learning process and the development of personal qualities. This involves exploring their interests, clarifying their values and priorities, and learning how to observe themselves and reflect on their emotions in relation to collective resonance.
For the first time, UEF students became aware that they are not merely scrolling through hundreds or even thousands of emotionally charged messages each day that subtly influence their thoughts and unconscious decisions. They also gained a clearer understanding of the collective dimension of the network of information and relationships that continuously interweaves personal life, education, and career development.
Professor Kaya encouraged students, regardless of their year of study, to begin today by creating a plan that includes a list of twenty companies within their field of interest where they would like to work. The more clearly a person puts their reflections on paper, the easier it becomes to understand why certain professional environments are attractive to them and how these are connected to their interests, strengths, and the areas they still wish to improve within themselves.
The application of the Law of Resonance, illustrated through university life and the visualization of a future work environment—including relationships with managers, colleagues, and collaborators—provided valuable insights for everyone involved in supporting young people.
The feeling of “confusion” at the threshold of adulthood does not appear spontaneously. It is often the result of an adolescence—or even a childhood—during which a genuine emotional compass was missing. When the questions, pressures, and inner challenges experienced between the ages of 10 and 18 are not listened to, recognized, and properly supported, young people may carry a sense of disconnection or uncertainty into adulthood.
Conversely, when children learn from an early age to observe themselves, recognize their strengths, and manage their emotions, they gradually develop the confidence needed to build their future without fearing academic or social pressures. The greatest gift we can offer young people is not to prepare a ready-made path for them, but rather to provide them with the ability to find their own direction, along with a space where they can experiment, measure, adjust, and develop their own abilities.
On this occasion, MyEQ offered five individual psychological consultation sessions, along with valuable support opportunities for UEF students who may need assistance. These services are provided by a team of emotional intelligence specialists who have been trained over several years by Professors Kaya and Christiane Muller according to internationally recognized standards and certified in their field.
We sincerely thank the faculty members, leadership team of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF), the students who attended, as well as every member of the MyEQ team and the volunteers who helped sow the seeds of emotional intelligence within the university environment and contribute to building our collective future.
