September is PCOS/PMOS Awareness Month, marking a historic shift in how we talk about this condition. Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) has officially been renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) to accurately reflect that it is a whole-body hormonal and metabolic disorder, not just a condition of ovarian cysts.

The name changed by droping the focus on "cysts," which aren't actually present in every patient. The new name highlights multi-system endocrine drivers and metabolic factors like insulin resistance, and ensures that healthcare providers look beyond fertility to manage long term cardiometabolic and mental health.

This change in terminology is important to reduce stigma, improve diagnostic timelines, and secure better funding for womens health.

Today and every day, we stand together to remember those we have lost and support everyone affected by the tragedy of overdose. Stigma isolates people and prevents them from seeking help, but compassion and community save lives.

Let's turn awareness into action:
- Learn the signs of an overdose.
- Carry a naloxone kit and know how to use it. Kits are free in Public Health Units and your local pharmacies.
- Speak up with empathy and end the stigma.

No one should carry this grief alone. Together, we can make a difference. πŸ’œ
