A beautiful posthumous recognition of the dedication and tireless work of our former board member and volunteer, Kate Akagi
** ESI AWARD RECIPIENTS 2026 - Citizens **
This year marks the launch of the new Economic and Social Inclusion Award, recognizing people, organizations and partners across New Brunswick who are helping reduce poverty, strengthen economic and social inclusion, improve access to opportunities and services, and reduce the stigma associated with poverty. The inaugural awards were announced today in connection with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, observed each year on October 17.
The Citizens category recognizes individuals who lead by example in their communities. Their contributions take many forms - volunteering, helping people connect with essential programs and services, sharing knowledge, mentoring others and supporting people who face economic or social barriers.
Much of this work happens quietly and locally, one person helping another. These efforts strengthen communities and show the difference individuals can make through their time, knowledge and commitment.
