IODE Atlantic Charter Chapter

IODE Atlantic Charter Chapter IODE: charitable, community service organization with a focus on education, citizenship, & service. Stephen High School Graduation Banquet each June.

IODE Atlantic Charter Chapter NB is part of a national women’s charitable organization dedicated to work together to improve the quality of life for those in need. Women of all ages and walks of life find fellowship, fun, and friendship as they work together on various projects that benefit our community. Our membership selects projects that benefit our local area as well as areas across Canada. M

illtown Elementary School is our assisted school; and as such, we donate classroom supplies, make monetary donations to be used for projects that benefit the children of the school, and log in many volunteer hours in the building throughout the school year. Our major fundraiser involves coordinating and catering the St. In the past our fundraising brought the first driver’s education program to St. Stephen, purchased much needed books for our local and school libraries, and supported theater productions for the benefit of the students and community at large. Celebrating our 70th anniversary a few years ago, one of our members recalled how as a war bride she came to Canada knowing only her new husband but soon found a family with her sisters in IODE. Community Service, Education, and Citizenship are the three legs on which IODE rests. Come visit us and see what we are all about...rich in heritage, we have evolved with the times. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month Sept. through June. In the wake of the Covid pandemic, the chapter made use of the Zoom platform. In person meetings and/or a hybrid format return when Public Health advisories permit.Message if you desire a Zoom link to attend a meeting as a guest.

What do you do with your weekend? Are you looking for a rewarding experience that benefits our community?

If you are interested in helping our youth realize their educational goals or fostering a love of reading, why not come meet members of our chapter IODE Atlantic Charter and hear what we are doing. Maybe you will come as a guest and leave as a member just like Miranda Dickens-Crispe.

Some members were supporting the area school sports teams, while others were taking time to be with family. This weekend, Rachel Fast and her raffle committee members set up in two different locations to sell raffle tickets on "Forget Me Knot", a hand embroidered queen size quilt that was also hand quilted by the Anglican Parish of St. Stephen Quilters and the St. Croix Cotton Mill Quilters.

Lynda D. continued to deliver First Book Canada Mini Libraries to two families whose businesses are Friends of IODE. The owners of Scoops as well as Sia's Kitchen gratefully accepted the book bags for their children. Jenny from Scoops said that she plans to keep the books with some others in the children's corner where customers often see her children doing their home work or colouring.

Reflection for the day on the 126th AGM Opening Day.

We were there...and, once you read the post, you will wish you were there too.

Earlier today IODE Canada's president Karen Dalton opened the 126th Annual General Meeting - Online.

From coast to coast to coast, IODE members logged on. Some were watching from their homes, and others gathered in a central location for a group experience.

Our Services Officer, Rachel Fast invited us fellow IODE Atlantic Charter Chapter members to attend a viewing party in her home. She proved that she is the "hostess with the most-ess!"

The dining room table was set. Tea and coffee were brewing. Chairs in a semi circle facing a large screen tv were paired with a tray table.

First session was led by Helen Danby . Our take away: Members should be thinking about how to accurately Communicate IODE's Brand as well as the brand and its relationship to Membership growth.

In addition to the Secretary's and Treasurers reports, business included the presentation of IODE Canada's RCMP Community Service Award. The recipient, Constable Andrew Nunez from G Division Fort Province Northwest Territories, was honoured for his outstanding service to his community of 800.

Tomorrow afternoon we will log on again when the 3 recipients of the War Memorial Scholarship are present, the Violet Downey Book Award winner is announced, and so much more.

Looking forward to seeing familiar faces online again.

Several parents of the children who received Mini-Libraries have sent private messages of thanks and included descriptions of their children's actions when sharing their books with siblings. Some ask an older sibling to read to them, while others are opening up the books and describing what is happening based upon the illustrations and their recollection of the story as read to them earlier in the day. One parent wanted to share a photo of her child with the two titles that are favourites. The smiles say it all! Thank you First Book Canada for your support of our Share a Story, Bring a Book Goes Local for the 126th AGM project of IODE Canada. Now our chapter is gathering at member Rachel Fast's for a group viewing of today's AGM. Looking forward to this.

IODE Atlantic Charter Chapter is encouraging people to WEAR TEAL on May 29th (Teal Day) in support of the Willow Centre and its work. The chapter will also be providing information about the Willow Centre and its work with members of IODE New Brunswick when they meet in June. Pictured here is Sam who is the driving force for Charlotte County's Willow Centre. She is sharing stories, connecting with neighbours, showing up, again and again for the people who need compassion and support. She and her staff have sparked community conversations about sexual violence, a topic too often left unspoken. Each May, the communities across Charlotte County bloom in teal during the sexual violence awareness campaign Sam spearheaded known as, Teal Day. On this day, businesses, schools, and organizations will find creative ways to contribute to the campaign; one storefront has dressed its mannequins in the Willow Centre’s teal shirts inked with the words “Let’s Teal with It. Listen. Believe. Support.” Another local pharmacy has created a display of Teal clothing that frames a poster about the Willow Centre.

Yesterday, our chapter was able to bring more smiles to elementary schools by providing a set of books from First Books Canada to add to the classroom library of the administration's choosing. Accepting the donation to St. Stephen Elementary School was Community Outreach Catriona McLanaghan and for Lawrence Station Elementary, Principal Kendra French whose staff and students provided us with a tour of the school too.

It's been a very busy month for our chapter. Earlier posts showed the chapter as having a table set up on May 8,9, & 10 at the GCC. The display shone a light on our chapter's work promoting literacy. Members were also packing five titles in every First Book Canada's book bag (total bags 100) to deliver on May 12th to Milltown Elementary School. Eighty children (grades K through the combined 2-3 class) were all smiles as they received their own 'mini-library' from several members and Friends of IODE Atlantic Charter. Miranda Dickens-Crispe was installed as a member during our business meeting at Carman's Diner. She's been following our work at Milltown Elementary School, became a 'Friend of IODE Atlantic Charter' , then made the decision to join. Then it was off to the Volunteer Centre of Charlotte County/St.Stephen Food Bank to deliver non-perishables. On May 16, it was back to the GCC to support the Charlotte County IWK Fundraising team as 'IWK Kids Karnival' volunteer(s). Rachel Fast, Fundraising Chair, is arranging venues for raffle ticket sales...no rest for our members.
