📣 Moving Forward Together – St. Stephen

Neighbourhood Works is hosting a Moving Forward Together clinic on Thursday, October 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 59 Union Street in St. Stephen.

This clinic offers a one-stop location for people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity who need help accessing ID, health care, income benefits, community services, or support with forms and next steps.

If you need a ride, contact Charlotte County Dial-a-Ride at 506 466 4444. Please, book with 24 hours notice.

At Neighbourhood Works, there are a variety of programs and support groups happening throughout the week, including:

✨ Community Dinners – Free meals every Tuesday & Thursday (5–6 PM)
🤝 Celebrate Recovery – Mondays at 6:30 PM
📖 Connect Bible Group (House of Zion) – Tuesdays at 7 PM
💬 Al-Anon – Wednesdays at 6:30 PM
🧠 Co***ne Anonymous – Thursdays at 7:30 PM
📖 Church Service (House of Zion) – Sundays at 10:30AM

These programs are open to the community and provide connection, support, and a welcoming space for anyone who needs it.

Neighbourhood Works also offers a wide range of additional services including youth programs, transitional housing, outreach supports, and a 24/7 homeless hub—all working together to support individuals and strengthen the community.

On Tuesday, October 20, St. Croix Vocational Centre Inc. will be here with Pulled Pork, Mashed Potatoes and Veggies.
On Thursday, October 22, Kings Church St. Stephen is in the kitchen with Chicken a la King.

💙 Congratulations, Jim Stuart!

Neighbourhood Works Inc. is proud to celebrate our Executive Director, Jim Stuart, who was presented with the Paul Harris Fellow recognition St. Stephen/Milltown Rotary Club members, Sharlene MacPhee and Maria Skavinski Kulcher

This recognition honours a commitment to service and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Through his leadership at NWI, Jim is part of the work that supports at-risk youth and their families, individuals and families facing homelessness, housing insecurity, and other challenges in our community.

We’re happy to see Jim recognized in this way. Congratulations, Jim! 👏

Meet Jade! 💪

Don't let her small stature fool you — she's as strong as they come!

As a seasoned Support Worker at the Lighthouse Lodge, Jade knows what needs to be done, and she does it. She has a strong sense of justice and an even stronger sense of caring — the perfect balance when supporting our guests.

Jade isn't afraid of difficult things. She can handle the tough moments, speak up when something isn't right, and still lead with compassion and understanding. She brings strength, honesty, and a whole lot of heart to her work every day.

We're lucky to have this little powerhouse on our team! 💛

We asked Jade a few questions:

How long have you worked at NWI?
Since 2024

Describe your role in your program
My job is to provide support to our participants, by helping them in their day to day activities like accessing laundry, shower, and other services, as well as providing meals and maintaining the environment in a safe and clean manner.

What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is bonding with our participants. It means a lot to me when they open up and trust me because it means I am making a positive impact.

What motivates you?
My family motivates me always. My mom and dad are my biggest supporters, as well as my niece Harper.

What is a skill or strength you bring to your job?
I am a licensed practical nurse so a lot of my healthcare background and education has helped me understand some of the challenges our participants face.

Favourite meal or go-to meal?
Chinese for a treat! Shepherds pie and my mamas shipwreck dinner is a good contender too.

What is a hobby or activity you like to do when not at work?
Spend time with my boyfriend Simon, and our dog King. Most of our time is spent outdoors at his family farm!

Coffee, Tea, or something else?
Recently started drinking tea, but black coffee when sleep escapes me.

If you could instantly learn a new skill, what would it be?
Knitting! I’ve managed to teach myself how to crochet but haven’t tackled knitting yet.

What one word would you use to describe NWI?
Support

What story or something personal that you'd like to share?
Not so much a specific story but my favourite work memories were carpooling with my coworker Heather (Heeder) listening to the best music and junking on the way to work. It was the best mental decompression before work.

We had the best Thanksgiving! We served 221 meals, thanks to Chef Kel and his merry group of volunteers!

We have no photos from the Friday peel party where a large group gathered to peel and chop.

We have a few photos from today! Thank you to the extended Moore Family, Greg, Jack and Hannah , Carol, Ralph, Diane and Kelly!

We couldn't do all that we do without the support we recieve!

🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from Neighbourhood Works Inc.! 🧡

Thanksgiving is a time to come together, share a meal, and appreciate the people around us. It’s also a time to reflect on the history of the land we call home and the importance of continuing the journey toward truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

This weekend, we’re thankful for our community, the connections we share, and everyone who helps make it a more welcoming and supportive place for all.
