STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY: Offensive Populaire rejects the use of lawsuits by wealthy landlords to silence tenants.
Syndicat des locataires MTL , the Montreal Autonomous Tenants Union (SLAM) was hit with an injunction for organizing with neighbours against a rent increase. The injunction acts to restrict the union’s public organizing.
That’s why last night our members took the initiative to flyer an Agence Station Bleue event in solidarity. Station Bleue is a talent agency owned by landlords Gabriel Paré and Annick-Patricia Carrière, who have hit their tenants with rent increases and have taken to the courts rather than sit down and negotiate with the union.
We stand with SLAM and people organizing despite frivolous lawfare that threatens our ability to organize for better living conditions.
The political character of these lawsuits cannot be ignored: they are meant to muzzle political organizing.
Not everything is for sale. Wealth can’t manufacture solidarity- and we’ve got lots of that!
