JUSTICE FOR OZIOMA — JUSTICE FOR THE GIRL CHILD
This is Ozioma.
She was arrested in Onitsha in 2022, where she was working as a sales girl. Her family says she was accused of participating in a protest associated with IPOB and was taken into custody.
For almost four years, her family searched for her, not knowing where she was being held. They eventually received information that she was alive and being held at Wawa military facility in Niger State.
From a reliable sources, Ozioma has been subjected to horrific treatment while in detention, including sexual abuse and being forced to convert from Christianity to Islam.
After years in custody, serious questions must be answered:
What crime was Ozioma charged with?
Where is the court order authorizing her continued detention?
Why was her family unable to locate her for years?
Who is responsible for the alleged abuse she suffered?
Why was she allegedly forced to change her religion?
Nigeria is a democratic country governed by laws. No citizen should simply disappear into detention without due process.
If Ozioma committed an offence, charge her before a competent court and allow her to defend herself.
If there is no lawful basis for her continued detention, RELEASE HER AND REUNITE HER WITH HER FAMILY.
And Ozioma may not be alone. We have received information concerning other people allegedly taken from their communities and held at the same facility.
Let the world hear about Ozioma.
I am calling on human-rights organizations, journalists, lawyers, civil-society organizations and the international community to demand an independent investigation.
We have evidence and are prepared to present it to credible organizations and investigators.
