Dr. David Stephen Memorial Foundation Foundation for the Prevention of Child Abuse

The Dr. David Stephen Foundation was established in 1993 to recognize Dr. Stephen’s many contributions to the community and to promote educational opportunities for professionals in the area of child abuse prevention. Dr. Stephen had been recognized as an expert in the field of child abuse and was instrumental in developing an Interdisciplinary Committee on Child Abuse for the Greater Saint John a

rea. He was awarded the Order of Merit by the Medical Society posthumously for his many contributions to the community, his patients, and the medical profession. Dr. David Stephen was tragically killed in an automobile accident on February 14, 1990, at age 35, as he was traveling to Saint Stephen to testify at a child abuse court case. The Dr. David Stephen Memorial Foundation is concerned with heightening public awareness of child abuse and its effects by educating the general public. The Foundation sponsors educational seminars targeted at health care professionals, including physicians, nurses and social workers; educators, including teachers and guidance counselors; law enforcement officers as well as the general public, and any agency working with our children with respect to child abuse and the legal process.
