What an inspiring and unforgettable afternoon in Saint John, NB!
Last Saturday, the inaugural Black History Event & Youth Essay Competition organized by the Council of African Professionals (CAP) in collaboration with United Colours Of Fashion (UCOF), Young Leaders Mentorship Program (YLMP), PURE Gold Foundation, and PRUDE Inc. brought together over 110 attendees to celebrate the brilliance, leadership, and vision of our youth.
Under the theme “Leading Beyond Borders: Shaping Africa’s Future, Voice by Voice,” participants courageously shared their perspectives and aspirations through essay presentations and an engaging panel discussion. Winners in both categories received cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding performances.
We were honoured by the presence of distinguished guests including Mayor Donna Reardon, Hon. David Hickey, Dr. Ralph Thomas, MLA Kate Wilcott, and several respected community leaders including Mutiat Adeleke, Anthony Ekweaga, and Olukayode Olusope.
A special thank you to MLA Kate Wilcott for presenting certificates of participation to all contestants and encouraging the next generation of leaders.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to everyone who contributed towards the success of this historic event—our host Akor Nuuk and the incredible PRUDE Inc. team, MC Mabel George, panel moderator Karla Marticorena, judges Rufina Ajalie and Adedoyin Tope-Daramola, caterer Chidinma, photographer Mukhtar, videographer Oluwafisayo, volunteers, parents, guardians, and every attendee who showed up in support of our youth.
Following the tremendous success of this maiden edition, the organizing team: Adejisola Atiba, Alaba Olawumni, Christine Eruokwu, and Faith Ashogbon, is excited about expanding the impact even further next year.
Stay tuned for next year’s announcement and opportunities to partner, sponsor, and participate.
