πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸŒΏ Celebrating World Bicycle Day with Newcomer Youth! πŸŒΏπŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

On Saturday, our newcomer youth spent the day exploring the beautiful trails of Rockwood Park as we celebrated World Bicycle Day together. πŸš²β˜€οΈ

From riding through nature to enjoying time with friends, the day was filled with smiles, adventure, and plenty of fun. The youth embraced the outdoors, built connections, and created wonderful memories along the way.

We wrapped up the day with laughter, joy, and a little unexpected rain shower that made the adventure even more memorable!

πŸ’™ Thank you to everyone who joined us for this fantastic day!

This World Refugee Day, we honour the strength, resilience, and courage of those who have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety, hope, and a brighter future. ❀️

Today, we are proud to share the journey of Fritz and Modeline, who arrived in Saint John with their children, Kevin and Kayla, carrying the same hopes so many parents do: to find safety, build a future, and create a place their family could call home.

From their first moments in Saint John, the Y has been there to walk alongside them. Through settlement support, English language classes, employment workshops, childcare, and community connections, their family found more than programs. They found encouragement, confidence, and a welcoming community.

Today, Fritz and Modeline are building their future here. Kevin and Kayla are learning, growing, and creating new memories, including Kevin’s first summer at Camp Glenn Carpenter Centre.

Their story is a beautiful reminder that belonging does not happen all at once. It grows through every welcome, every connection, and every step forward.

⚠️ Update: Temporary Swimming Closures at 3 Saint John Beaches ⚠️

Tucker Park Beach, Fisher Lake (Rockwood Park), and Dominion Park Beach are temporarily closed for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels identified through water testing conducted by Public Health.

🚫 Swimming is not permitted at these locations until further notice. 🚫

Here’s what you need to know:
- Tucker Park Beach, Fisher Lake and Dominion Bark Beach are closed to swimming due to elevated bacterial levels detected during recent Public Health testing. These closures apply only to swimming activities at the affected beaches. No other City beaches or swimming areas are impacted at this time;
- Warning signs are posted at all affected locations;
- Lifeguards will be on site during regular operating hours to advise the public and help ensure visitor safety.

🌳 The public can continue to enjoy these areas for other recreational activities. Walking or running along the shoreline, hiking nearby trails, picnicking, and relaxing on the beach remain safe and encouraged. Visitors are simply asked to avoid entering the water while the swimming advisories remain in effect.

Testing will continue at all affected locations, and the City will provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to protect the health and safety of residents and visitors.

Every day, HR professionals make decisions that shape workplace culture, employee experiences, and organizational success. But many of those decisions also carry legal implications.

At our recent HR Meet-Up, hosted through the Newcomer Employment Champions (NEC) Program, employers and HR professionals came together to explore employment law considerations and practical approaches to managing legal risk in the workplace.

The session provided practical insights into navigating common workplace situations through an employment law lens, helping participants better understand how proactive HR practices can reduce risk, strengthen compliance, and support positive workplace outcomes.

Discussions explored topics such as documentation, policy application, employee relations, accommodation considerations, and the importance of consistency in workplace decision-making. Attendees left with valuable knowledge, actionable strategies, and a deeper understanding of how thoughtful HR practices can help organizations address challenges before they become liabilities.

Beyond the learning, the event created space for meaningful conversations among professionals committed to building workplaces that are fair, respectful, and legally sound.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their perspectives. Together, we continue to strengthen our workplaces, support our workforce, and build more resilient organizations.
