Following a successful 2025 Chamber Fest, the Peninsula Orchestra has already made plans for 2026.

For those who have attended before, you know all about it.
For those of you who don’t know, here is a little information on how it works and what you might expect when attending.

From August 17th until August 21nd, you and a group of fellow musicians attend evening rehearsals from 6:30pm until 9:30pm to work on pieces of music within smaller instrumental groups arranged by our Music Director to suit each group’s skill level and mix of instruments.

These groups could be as small as 2-4 players or larger groups may be formed of 4-6 players. This all depends on who attends and what mix of instruments are represented.

Each group of players will be assigned an instructor teacher/coach who will work within their groups to help develop the sound and techniques required.

It is also possible that another larger ensemble may also be formed to play a piece or two together.

You may also join as a preformed group of musicians with your own music (or music selected by your instructor) and benefit from the attention of a professional music instructor to take your group’s skills to the next level.

Eduardo Farias holds a Doctoral degree in Music Performance from Michigan State University and has built an international career as both performer and educator.

Before moving to Canada, he performed throughout Brazil—his home country—France, Germany, Greece, and the United States, gaining experience in a wide range of orchestral and solo settings.

He studied trumpet under Justin Emerich, Richard Illman, Kenneth Kirk, and Enio Guerra, and further developed his artistry through masterclasses with Ole Edvard Antonsen, Pierre Dutot, Fernando Dissenha, and Flavio Gabriel.

His teaching career in the U.S. included faculty positions at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Flint Institute of Music, and Michigan State University Community Music School.

He also served as Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Saginaw Valley State University and as seasonal faculty at Michigan State University, where he inspired students with his technical mastery and musical insight.

Currently, Eduardo serves as Music Teacher at Kleinburg Christian Academy and Milton Christian School.

He is also an active performer and member of the Kaleidoscope Ensemble, a chamber-music group based in St. Catharines, bringing his international perspective to collaborative performances.

His work reflects a deep commitment to musical expression, collaboration, and connecting with audiences and students alike.

From Classical Forms to Romantic Expression

Experience an afternoon of orchestral masterworks as the Peninsula Orchestra performs on May 30 at 4:00 p.m., featuring acclaimed trumpeter Eduardo Farias in Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major.

The program includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2, selections from Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, and Bach’s beloved Sheep May Safely Graze.

Doors open at 3:30pm at St Thomas Church, 99 Ontario St, St Catharines.

Classical guitarist Alexandra Whittingham’s album Letters From Paris spent weeks on the Classical Chartz Top Ten. Now, Toronto and Ontario audiences will get a change to hear her perform in person.

Alexandra first began studying guitar at the age of 11 at Chetham’s School of Music. She now teaches at that institution. She subsquently earned a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she earned both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Alexandra first became famous at the age of 16 via videos of her performances that went viral. She’s since accumulated more than 100 million views on YouTube alone. Her debut album, My European Journey, was released in 2021, and featured lesser-known composers.

Letters From Paris showcases the work of French composers including both classical selections from Debussy, Satie, and others, and works from the quintessential French chansons like Édith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose. The release also includes two works arranged and by Roland Dyens, an artist she’s described as her “idol”.

She’s been touted in her native UK as “a young 21st-century virtuoso” by The Guardian. Recently, she performed to great acclaim with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic at Royal Albert Hall for Classic FM Live, and went on a tour through the UK with duo partner Stephanie Jones. Alexandra went on a 43-date North American tour as par of International Guitar Night, and she’s performed at the Cayman Islands Arts Festival, the Rome Guitar Expo, and the South by Southwest Festival in Texas.

Along with her own performing career, Alexandra is concerned with music education. In 2023, she released A European Journey, a book of guitar music designed for beginning and intermediate players, and featuring a selection of 19th-century European works. Her recent publication Forgotten Songs includes selected pieces by the English composer Ernest Shand.

Alexandra is an Augustine Strings artist, and plays guitars made by Philip Woodfield and Christopher Dean.

We expect all the current players to return, but if you are new or would like to join, let us know here, we still have some positions open (still looking for trombone, another basson and could always use an extra viola or 2 more).
