Today we honour Orange Shirt Day & National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

As a community foundation, we recognize that we have a continual role to play in learning the truth of our history. We recognize we have a long way to go as we strive to decolonize our definitions of philanthropy, and we are grateful for the Indigenous and Black communities in Niagara who are actively helping us adjust our lens to see that philanthropy is rooted in deep, ancestral tradition. As Niagara's philanthropic partner, it is our responsibility to steward this definition and continually soften its edges, remove unnecessary barriers and expand our reach in new and exciting ways.

Today, and every day, we celebrate the many First Nation, Indigenous, Metis and Inuit People who live in our community. Their impact is seen throughout Niagara and the history our our region began with these Nations. This Land is the original home to the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples. It is because of the Upper Canada Treaties and the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement that we as Settlers are welcomed to call this land our home as well.

We had the honour of attending the Indigenous Niagara Outstanding Achievement Awards on Friday, hosted by Niagara Academy of Indigenous Relations (NAIR). This phenomenal event, with live performances, moving speeches, and educational presentations put Indigenous Excellence at centre stage. CONGRATULATIONS to all the award recipients and thank you to NAIR, Tim Johnson and the entire team of volunteers for hosting us and bringing leadership and enthusiasm to Niagara. We look forward to what comes next.

The NCF Application process is easy and straight forward but there are a few quick steps you need to check off before you dive in.
1. You MUST have a grant consult with our Director of Grants. This is required before you start your application.
2. Your organization must meet a minimum of 8/14 items on the Governance Checklist.
3. The Grant Portal requires a personal login. If your organization already has an account, please contact NCF staff to get linked properly to your organization, avoiding duplication.
4. Review the questions and start your application! Do you have multiple people contributing to the application? You can add them as a Collaborator so you don't have to share login details.
5. Submit your application on-time! No late applications are accepted.

Our next grant round is Community Grants due Monday, October 5 at NOON.
